I wasted years thinking that I didn’t need to resort to a white noise generator, and that I could just deal with changing my sleep schedule to accommodate neighbour-noise, but I’m glad that I finally bought this one nine months ago.It doesn’t always completely cover unwanted noise, but even when it doesn’t block it entirely, it does take my attention away from those noises that used to keep me from sleeping (loud talking / dogs barking). It creates a blanket of normalized sound, the volume of it rising or falling naturally – it’s never jarring.Considering my comment about how it covers noise, I should mention that I’ve never used the sound machine at maximum volume. It would be too loud for me to sleep through at maximum because I keep the machine right beside my bed, just slightly lower than the level my head rests at. Since the sound comes from the top of the machine, instead of the sides, maximum volume would be too much for me.When I need the brook setting to ease me into sleep, it sounds just like I’m resting beside a real brook, and when it’s about to time out, it reduces its volume gradually until the sound fades away completely and the machine shuts itself off. When I need to use the machine again, it starts out with the same settings I choose for it on last use. The machine seems to have been designed to be stress free, and I really appreciate that.Paradoxically, I’ve also found it useful in helping me to concentrate. When I’m reading, and want to shut out any possible distractions, I use the train setting. It works.

Third time’s NOT the charm
I asked for and received this for Christmas last year and, for 6 months, it was the sleep machine of my dreams – a wonderful variety of sound stories that can be enriched with more add-in sounds, and absolutely no looping! My husband and I slept well each night with this machine, and we used the machine for relaxing sound therapy during the day, too. I definitely recommend the fireplace sound story for creating a romantic atmosphere! ;)At 8 months, we heard the crackling and popping sounds noted by other reviewers. I contacted the company – fabulous customer support, by the way – and received a new sound card. After following the instructions for installation, we enjoyed 2 months of blissful sleep until one night the train (my favourite sound story) sounded like it had a horrible accident and came to a screeching halt! Instead of a peaceful sleep, I woke up in terror. The machine wouldn’t turn on again.Once more, I contacted customer support and this time received a brand new unit. Nervous now about another jarring end to a sound story in the middle of the night, I chose brown noise to sleep with thereafter. I was thrilled to discover that this steady sound actually blocked disrupting noises more effectively and led to a deeper sleep! I also hoped that, because this setting is simpler than the more complex stories full of different sounds, the sound card wouldn’t corrupt. Sadly, a rattling, whistle-y undertone has started after 4 months. The unit has been replaced by my trusty old Sound Oasis S-650, and I’m ordering a new white noise machine as soon as I finish comparing different models.

Gets me off to sleep in no time
I have difficulty getting off to sleep (things on my mind, etc.) so I found this device to be an excellent way of diverting my attention to the noises it makes. My preference is the rainfall sound, and I use the richness on full setting. On a reasonably low volume, with the device situated across the room, it makes a very, very, convincing sound of a gentle rainfall appearing to come from outside of the house, with the occasional clap of distant rolling thunder. For me, listening to this is quite comforting and soon gets me off to sleep.There are a variety of sounds, and I suppose it needs experimentation to find the right sound for your personal circumstances, but there are lots to choose from, and the richness button gives variations to each sound.Some reviewers have said that there’s not enough volume, but I’ve found the volume to be more than sufficient for my needs, and if it was too loud, I think that would keep me awake anyway.Overall, I’m really glad I purchased the device.

Scrivo questa recensione dopo due mesi di utilizzo di Sound+Sleep. Ho comprato il dispositivo per un problema di acufene e mi sono decisa all’acquisto dopo aver letto le tante recensioni positive. Posso solo dire: mi dispiace di non averlo comprato prima! Il prodotto è eccellente: copre l’acufene e concilia il sonno in un modo che, inizialmente, è sorprendente. E, nel tempo, comunque, non delude mai. Intelligente il tasto “adaptive” che calibra il volume valutando il rumore dell’ambiente; irrinunciabile l’opzione “ocean” che è una vera e propria esperienza sonora immersiva. Consigliatissimo. Cinque stelle meritatissime.
