Great shelf
Exactly what I needed for under my bathroom sink. Easily put up, fit behind the pipe that was there and feels very sturdy. If you have smaller items you may need to put something across the bars and at the end where the bars stop to use the full length of the shelf. I just used a plastic lid and it works fine.

Does the job
We got these tension shelves after moving to an apartment with very little storage. Currently we are using one at the very top of our hallway closet to create a little extra space to eventually hold our camping gear. The shelves were easy to put together, shipped quickly, and seem to be very sturdy for what they are. If you’re in a pinch, I would recommend it.I do wish they were slightly less expensive, given that they seem to be made primarily if plastic and aluminum.
Excellent for RV Cupboard
There was a ton of wasted vertical space in the cupboard of our RV, this shelf works great to make that space usable. It’s sturdy, especially with the addition of the stick-on holders. You donât have to use the holders, there is enough tension, but they add extra security and strength and I feel totally comfortable having our dishes up on the rack.
Not sturdy at all
Seeing other reviews I thought this could work. Only planned on putting a small plant or pot up there for the kitchen.Even with 2 people to install; one holding the rod, the other screwing the extender in place, it still slides off the wall. Only enough to keep small hand towels up. Wasn’t going to put anything heavy up there, but expected it to hold more than a little shake or pressure.
Does the job
When I pulled these from the box I was disappointed ad they looked cheap. I bought the extra long ones, and I couldnt see how they would stay up. Then I realized that when you screw in the extenders, it actually cuts into the metal bar to hold. This makes a big difference.Since I didn’t have any one to help my hang, I put a couple rows of trim in the wall with drywall screws at the right height so the feet could ‘sit’ on something while increasing the tension. I highly recommend this. Less frustrating and it gives some extra permanent support.This isn’t a heavy duty shelf for sure, but if you’re hanging some clothes and accessories it does the job. With the extra long one I bought, 72″, I wouldn’t put anything much more than towels or folded clothes on top.
Needed extra support; would not easily stay in place.
So….the thing is where I wanted it to be and hasn’t fallen. And it does accept lots of weight. BUT: I put it above my bathtub to hang clothes, and it wouldn’t completely stay in place. One side did, the other not. I got tired and ended up running a thick nylon cord from the shower bar to a nail half way on the wall opposite the shower head to another nail on the wall parallel to the curtain and it did the trick, but was not the idea, right? Maybe if two people install it it fully works, I don’t know.
This gave me a so much more space in my pantry. It took me a couple of minutes to figure it out since instructions werenât super clear but once I figured it out, it was easy to install. It is really sturdy. The only drawback is that the âshelfâ part are rods. So my workaround was to put a small piece of plywood sheet on top so items donât fall through.
Every item on this shelf except the tide is 100% brand new, full, and heavy! The shelf didnât budge at all. I was worried about assembly since everyone mentioned you need two people. Iâm not sure if I found a magic trick on accident, but I installed it in one try by myself and nothing about it was difficult?I will be ordering more of these. My ONLY negative is that is only came with ivory. I would have preferred black. But otherwise, perfect for my needs. The next purchase will be for my glass shower so that I can store towels at the top of it.
I like this product, but I don’t love it. The instructions aren’t great, but its fairly straightforward. To set the length of the bars you’re basically screwing a pointed screw into the metal rod. It damaged the inner rod – dents it up, scratches it… If you get the length a little off the first few times you just have damaged rod sticking out. This also impacts how easy it would be to reuse in a different space, and leaves me with serious reservations about the shelf stability.I know it’s approved for about 40lb but I am not comfortable putting that kind of weight on these shelves. After about 20lb it starts to slip, no matter how tight I make the tension. Its also annoying that there is no option to have the three inner rods don’t extend to the full length of the shelf. And finally, the metal and plastic look isn’t really my style. Its kind of hospital vibes.So far, however, the shelves are doing their job. They create storage in a spot that I’ve been struggling to use for years. So, for that alone, I am happy.
I have a Cape Cod and my upstairs closet goes into the eves on one side so there is a lot of dead space that is awkward to get to. I felt putting a tension rod across just before where the eve starts to slope down would allow me better storage to put the off season clothes there, giving me more hanging space. When I saw this double rod with the shelf on top I thought this would be great since I could also put some things on top of the shelf. But like most of the other reviews said, it is very difficult to pull the rods to the desired length, hold them in place snugly, and turn the screws to tighten it down. I finally got it in place after a lot of fumbling with it, I started to put some clothes on it along with a 6-shelf fabric hanging storage bag which I put all my sweaters in. I had 13 summer cardigans & dresses hanging on the rods and about 6 sweaters in the hanging bag when the whole thing collapsed. It was so aggravating! I thought about just returning the shelf right then and there, but I decided to try to get it to work again. This time I measured the length I needed and secured the rods in place and began to put it on an angle until it seemed to “stick” to the wall, then I used a rubber mallet to gently hammer it down till it was level and strongly secured to the wall. I’m still not completely confident that it will stay put and I placed a shoe box under the hanging storage bag so that the full weight isn’t pulling on the rod, and I plan on tying a piece of cord and tying it to the rod and attaching it to a nail that I’ll place into the header above to give it more support. It’s a lot of effort to get this thing to work, but if you have the patience and someone to assist you (which I didn’t), then I’d say give it a shot. Just don’t put a lot of weight on it, it’s definitely not made for that.
