Description

For anyone who could use a little help motivating a toddler to give up their beloved binky, this charming book celebrates the important milestone of giving up a pacifier as an exciting step towards becoming a big kid.

Babies use a binky. Do big kids? No! Big kids say, “Bye-bye, binky!”

Every child’s life is filled with milestones. Some happen easily; others need a little extra support. Artist and mom Maria van Lieshout has been there. Drawing upon her own experiences, she has created an engaging series of books that are just right for children on the brink of major changes and the caregivers who encourage them.

EMPOWERING THE YOUNGEST READERS: With simple text and cute illustrations, this sweet book encourages toddlers to get excited about becoming a big kid.

EXPERIENCED AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR: Born and raised in Holland, Maria van Lieshout now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and young son. A full-time children’s book author and illustrator, Maria has written and illustrated twelve children’s books to date, including the Big Kid Power series, Hopper and Wilson, Bloom!, Flight 1-2-3, and more.

PART OF AN ESSENTIAL SERIES: Big Kid Power is a collection of four books including Bye-Bye Binky, I Use the Potty, No More Tantrums, and I Sleep in a Big Bed. This series of books is ideal for toddlers facing

Reviews

  1. Easy to Understand
I really enjoy this book and so does my grandchild. The only thing is I change the binky to soother as that is the name we use. Like the idea that the soother can give someone else joy as the child grows out of using it.

  2. It worked!
This is a fun and simple book that worked for us! We read this every night at bedtime for about 2 weeks. My toddler started repeating lines from the book, then one day she just put down her binky and never picked it up again! 10/10! An easy and low-stress way to give up binky.

  3. Celebrates growing up
I like that this book celebrates becoming a big kid by saying bye to the soother (rather than some other books that don’t have such a positive empowering message about giving it up.) My toddler loves it and it really helped prepare him for giving it up! We changed the word binky to soother when we read it for him.

  4. Adorable & very helpful!
My toddler loves this book still long after having ditched her pacifier. Clear story that helps motivate little ones.

  5. Okay story
Okay story. The suggestion is to give their soother to a random baby

  6. Two weeks before we took away our daughter’s pacifier, we started reading this book every night. She liked the story and the fun baby pictures. The book helped her learn that she is a “big girl” who doesn’t need her binky anymore. It worked great and has been helpful for getting our daughter to think about other ways she is a “big girl” who can do things like “big kids” do. I would definitely recommend this book.

  7. Love this book! We’ve bought a couple books to help our daughter finally say goodbye to her paci. This one is the best. Simple story, not too many words, cute illustrations, and gives great examples of ways for a little one to cope with emotions in lieu of a pacifier. My daughter just asked me to read it to her FIVE times in a row! Worth every penny.

  8. Bought this book to help with taking the bink. At first she hated the book and threw it but as time went on she really understood the text and it helped tremendously with weaning her from her binky. Overall a cute book that definitely helped my child understand being a big girl means no binky!! She’s two for reference.

  9. Cute and clear little story to help our son understand that kids grow out of pacifiers and he will be ok without it. The illustrations are great, but the modern two-tone color palate isn’t very engaging for little ones. I also recommend Pacita the Pacifier Fairy. This is a good compliment to additional books if you’re also trying to convince your toddler that they can live without the pacifier!

  10. We read this to our almost two year old for less than two weeks. She kinda let us know she was ready. We had about 4 rough nights but she didn’t ask for her binkie like she had in past attempts. She definitely does not want to read the book anymore though.
