Small parts
Takes a bit to get used to all the tiny pieces, but turned out very nice.
Mixed feelings about this set. It looks great, but really hard to follow the instructions.
So I liked this building block set. Sort of. There were many times that were insanely frustrating because of how the instructions are, and how little information they give you. Theyâre also totally in Chinese, so unless you read the language youâre on your own. There really isnât too much writing anyways, but there is some.Hereâs what I like about it:-It has a ton of detail-It looks incredible-It has a bunch of things that even younger ones can doAnd hereâs what I donât like about it:-The instructions are terrible-Some pieces are malformed-Not full lego sized-I didnât get enough pieces for some things, and I got too many of others. So I have many mixed feeling about this kit. In general, itâs pretty nice. The thing is that some pieces werenât fully formed, and were missing the bottom of the piece. The pieces in general are just not made all that great. They donât really snap together, and many parts would just not stay together. The biggest thing that irked me is that I didnât get enough pieces for some things. My tree for example just isnât like the tree shown in the product photos. Itâs close but not exact. So I had to improvise a lot of it. I also had too many of other pieces, which made me think I messed up somewhere. I know I didnât though, as one of the pieces is very specific, and I only got one extra of those (itâs the corner of the houses).Something else Iâd like to touch on are the instructions, which are abysmal. Itâs really hard to describe how bad they are. If youâve ever built a full Lego set, the instructions are usually done in a 2 point perspective, where youâre able to see approximately where it should go, and how high it is. These instructions are done in a 2d, top down perspective. In other words, you canât see how high the pieces go. Theyâre also done in layers, sort of. Sometimes youâre putting down 1 piece down on that layer, other times youâre putting down 30. Theyâre also not always the same height, so youâre going to be left guessing whether or not the piece you put down is the right height or not. Finally, the last thing about the instructions are that they just arenât right in some sections, and theyâre not easy to figure out. The instructions are done in colour, but many of the pieces that youâre putting down are clear. That makes it really hard to distinguish if the piece has a nub on it, or not, if itâs even supposed to be there or not, etc. I also mentioned that they just arenât right, and what I mean by that is that sometimes it just has pieces that are in the wrong place from the previous pages. Iâm not sure what went on in this instruction set, but I assume there were some revisions that just were half reflected in the booklet.I think the question youâre probably asking me is would I recommend it. And I genuinely think that depends on the person that you are. If you like problem solving (because there will be a lot of it), I think this can be a good set. Thereâs a lot of things that youâre going to need to change from the booklet, and some things that will need to stay the same. But on the other hand, I would not recommend it to people who like following a book. Itâs just not easy to do. I highly doubt that anyone under the age of 14 will do this without getting frustrated. If youâre a set collector, Iâd also advise that you understand how little this set is. The pieces are tiny, and may look a bit odd compared to the larger pieces in say a original lego set.
Super fun
I ordered this building block set for my daughter who loves anything with an oriental theme. With over 3000 blocks, it will be a wonderful challenge. I was very impressed with the blocks. They are not Lego, but are a form of micro-block, which allows this build to have a lot of detail in a smaller space. The kit comes with ten bags full of blocks, a bag of small elastics, the acrylic pieces for the display case, instruction booklet filled with pictures depicting each step and a little string of led lights with battery to light up your masterpiece when finished. The blocks needed for each step are located in several different bags. I recommend using several hard containers with lids or re-sealable bags to hold the blocks, because once you open the bags they can’t be closed again except with a twist tie or possibly the small elastics that they include. It is also easier to locate the block you need if they are in a flat tray with sides so that you can root around amongst the pieces without worrying that one could accidentally get lost. The blocks are nicely colored and easy to put together. They fit together well (I tested a few) and hold together nicely. Honestly, when I opened the box and saw all of the beautiful little blocks, I wanted to build this one myself instead of give it to my daughter! We spoke about it and decided it would be fun to do together and have a few nice “craft days” while building it.The acrylic they include for the case is nice and clear and will protect it very well once this kit is built.I definitely agree with the age rating they have on the box of 14 and up (unless they have a lot of adult supervision). This is not a kit for a younger child, because these pieces are very tiny and, although the booklet has a lot of pictures showing the steps well, it is a very long build. Most younger children do not have the patience for this. Of course, there are always exceptions, but be aware of this before you order for a child. The single blocks are really small and could get lost easily, therefore making it difficult to complete the build. To complete this kit, you need good manual dexterity since the pieces are so tiny.I am really looking forward to completing this kit with my daughter!Update#1: I just completed making the kit so that I know whether or not all of the pieces were present. Some of the instructions towards the end when making the tree were quite difficult to follow, but I got it done. There are a few pieces missing for which I will be sending to the company as per the instructions included with the kit. I used Google Translate to get the translation since everything was written in Chinese. I will update this review to let you know what happened when I wrote to the company via Amazon.Update#2: I contacted the company through Amazon and told them of my missing pieces. They answered very quickly and kindly rectified the situation. I received my pieces today!
Missing parts and one oversized item.
While working on building this was enjoyable I am unable to give it a perfect rating due to multiple missing pieces. Additionally, there was one oversized piece that I photographed this is one of the parts I had to replace, which resulted in integrity issues later in the build. Other than this issue I found this to be an enjoyable purchase although it was frustrating due to the poor instructions requiring multiple remakes of multiple sections.
The most important thing to note is that these building blocks are extremely tiny. I have included a reference photo of size comparison of these to Lego bricks, and they are so much smaller that it is a feat to build with them. It is a real test of patience and fine-motor skills. If you have a hard time handling very tiny objects, this may not be the right kit for you, despite how beautiful the end results are.I noticed that the box says it is recommended for ages 6+, but that is definitely not realistic. This kit should not be purchased for anyone younger than 13, just because of how extremely tedious the build is. The instructions are given as layer maps that requires you to find the right spots for all the pieces and hope you don’t miss anything. Unless your child has an extremely long attention span, this is probably not the right kit. This build is definitely intended for adults.Overall it was really enjoyable. I didn’t really time myself, but I am guessing it took me between 10 and 18 hours over the course of a week. The build was pretty to look at the entire time making it quite fun, though it was harder to focus whenever little ones were running around asking me questions while trying to not lose my place. My regret with the build is that I dumped all the bags into the same box, which in hindsight was a foolish idea. Don’t repeat my mistake. If you want to dump them out, at least put them into their own containers. And be careful about losing pieces as these guys are tiny! Best to build it over tile instead of carpet just in case. I know I sadly lost a piece somewhere, but I still managed to get it done. All in all, this was really enjoyable to build and I highly recommend it if you are a fan of Chinese architecture, cherry trees, and waterfalls. So pretty and a fun project to fill my free time.
This is a very pretty piece, and a fun build, if a bit challenging or frustrating. The micro blocks are VERY small, and things can get a bit intricate, please take note of this before buying! These are not Lego sized pieces, they are micro blocks! This is absolutely not a set for small children, the pieces could be a choking hazard, but it’s fine for adults. The whole build is a floating island supported by the waterfalls, so it’s a bit of a precarious balancing act while you’re still building it, and you have to make sure the pieces are placed right as you build or you may break things off repeatedly like I did.But the end product is a gorgeous and whimsical shelf piece, with its little cherry blossoms and the floating island with its pagodas. I really like the end product of this one, it was just that getting there was a bit of a challenge.I took one star off because of a false claim. The product page includes a bullet point that states “With acrylic display box: In order to help you better showcase and cherish this building block toy, we have specially included an acrylic display box”. Mine did not include any kind of acrylic display box, it was all in a flat box.
This is a wonderfully detailed mini-brick building set. My daughter who loves building brick sets has declared this as one of her new all-time favorites. It is not a quick build even for experienced builders as these pieces are tiny and there are a lot of them. The instructions are good though, even if not in English, as the pictures take you step by step. It also isn’t a repetitive design so the building process is enjoyable. The one criticism that my daughter has was that even with the included brick taking apart piece, if you happen to put a piece down wrong on the base, it is next to impossible to get the piece back apart (everyone had a go at it in this family with no luck, it was just the one piece placed in the wrong spot and she was able to adapt and make it work). However, that is probably pretty common on most mini brick sets so not unique to this one.
This is definitely a set more made for model builders than for people to actually play with. These pieces are way too tiny, not compatible with the name brand at all. At very least though, the final set looks good for display.
This will keep you engaged for hours, I’m sure of it. There are so many pieces that come in this package and I believe it is clearly meant as a long-term project. It’s very relaxing for me and fun for my daughter, and it’s a quality product too. Do you keep the pieces away from smaller children though, but as long as you do that you’ll be able to enjoy this for a long time. And of course it’s pretty to look at whenever it’s done.High value, relaxing for adults, and kids will love it too!
