Description
The Top of Stair Extra Tall gate helps parents keep their children safe from common household dangers, especially around the stairs. The four point hardware mount combined with swing control provides a secure top of stair mounting that is easy to install with minimum tools required. For your convenience, the gate will swing in one or both directions depending on how you set the swing control. A one handed release handle will allow you to pass through the gate quickly and easily, but the two motions to unlock the gate will be too difficult for baby. If your space is limited, don’t worry, because this gate will also retract as you open it.

We bought our first gate two weeks ago and the third gate came yesterday. Best choice for our needs. We were going for aesthetics and reliability. Our one year old stands at the top of the stairs and rattles the gate like a caged monkey and the gates hold up nicely.Wood is darker than appeared in the original listing and box, which we were happy about. The width between our stairs are different from gate to gate and required some creativity to extend them and fit them properly. My wall joists rarely lined up with where I wanted my gates so I used drywall toggle bolts (115lbs) for the top of stairs gates and drywall anchors (35lbs) for the bottom of stairs gate.The trickiest part is screwing the brackets in accurately so that the gate is straight. I made lots of mistakes to get them straight.Some cool advantages:1. Gates are quite loose in the brackets so there is little strain on the walls and anchors each time the gate is opened and closed.2. Gates can lift out of the brackets and put aside at anytime, or can be attached anywhere else there are brackets in your home. You would need to buy their top of stairs accessory kit ($11 on the company’s website) if you want to install brackets elsewhere in your home.3. Very simple to use. My wife and 15 year old son have no problem getting the gates open, although my son now steps over the gate when it’s closed. The third top of stairs gate came a little warped so it’s not as simple to open and close,but it does the trick.UPDATE 6 MTHS LATER: Gates are great.
Great Gate.. just not for us
I must preface this but saying my dog loves to chew on wooden sticks and I donât know what I was thinking⦠We bought this gate to keep our dog out the kitchen as our previous home had a door to keep the kitchen shut when we left the house. Wanting to keep her out the kitchen in our new place, I chose this lovely gate, easy to install, easy to use and cute! Big mistake on my end, my dog chewed right through it, just like she does with sticks.. So if youâre buying this and you have a chewer, be smart and buy the metal one from Regalo, itâs easy to use and wonât be chewed up until you have a freakishly strong dog that chews metal. The End

Good looking gate. Easy to open with one hand and fairly sturdy. Does rattle a bit when shaked by little ones but overall quite happy with it.
Excellent top of the stairs choice
I don’t mess around with stairs, we immediately ordered this gate for our new build as we have a 15 month old who has never been around stairs before.Make sure you have drywall plugs ready to go because you’ll likely not hit studs and you’ll want it secure.Previously I bought a black metal “esthetically pleasing” one to block off a room and immediately regret it. It was crap, back to the basics with this one and not a single second thought!
Beautiful gate but..
This gate is beautiful! It is exactly what I was looking for to match the dark floors and wood decor in the home. BUT as other reviews mentioned, the gate came very warped. The top and bottom have a difference of about 3 inches. Because of how nice this gate is, we have learned to live with the warp (we slide the bottom of the gate into the latch first and then lock the top in). Nice and sturdy. For looks alone, I would order this gate again, even if it was bent!

Itâs very easy to install. Itâs sturdy, stylish and easy to open and close. The only thing for me is that I didnât think it was that high. But thatâs ok because I use it for the dogs.

Great gate – we have in in a doorway as the main entrance to the playroom. Easy to install, comes with a stencil to help you measure. Wood is good and sturdy. Using it easy – locking and unlocking is an easy mechanism.
Been using this as our baby gate for the kitchen. Fits perfectly in our normal doorway. We didnât add the feature to make it only open one way and itâs been great. Looks nice. Sturdy enough that my now-toddler shakes it and it doesnât open. Lock is easy to use.
Great product very pleased. I’m not easy to impress and I don’t hand out glowing reviews unless it’s well earned in every aspect. With that said…I really like this product, have installed 2 of them and would only use this gate for young children. Easy installation even if your stairwell has moulding, trim, etc that could be a little tricky. Your product is flexible and if your a bit off level, or it’s cock eyed it doesn’t lose function and let’s non handy people still get the job done. It’s made of quality materials, sealed with quality lacquer, the wood isn’t easily dented…But what I’m really pleased about is how secure it latches. No baby on earth is getting that open or getting through it. Not a chance. Its next level sturdy. I lock that gate on the top of the stairs and let my toddlers crawl around the whole upstairs with 110 confidence and piece of mind that cant figure out a way over or around it, nor can they muscle through it. The lat thing mechanism is the all the glory with this product. It swings & glides smoothly, functions smoothly, versatile, etc. Ita complete in every way. There are no flaws, loose end, short cuts taken with this gate. You have to anchor it to the wall, its incumbent upon you the consumer, to use quality anchors & a level…They make this installation about as easy as it gets if you’re looking for a very sturdy, very secure, very toddler proof gate. My youngest toddler was another top step when she fell, back of the head first, when I grabbed her shirt at the last second before she was going down 20 stairs. These gates have made sure that was a 1 and done situation. Nothing is more valuable than her safety and this is the gate I stand behind. You will too
