1. Why am I only collecting a small amount of breastmilk? Am I not using the Haakaa correctly?
First, ensure that the Pump is securely attached with a strong suction. Using a warm compress, pumping in the shower, pumping first thing in the morning, and gently massaging your breast, are all easy ways you can stimulate more milk to be expressed!
2. My Haakaa pump hurts to use. How can I stop this? What causes the pain
Maybe suction too strong. Try to just lightly squeeze the base and attach to your breast making sure your nipple is in the centre of the pump and not touching the sides of the Pump. The more air gets squeezed out, the stronger the suction will be.
3. Why does my Haakaa have a strong smell of plastic? Is there any way to get rid of the smell?
Make a paste of baking soda and water, rub it all over the Pump and then soak it in a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and warm water for about 30-60min. Then clean your pump thoroughly with warm soapy water. Finally, boiling in hot water for 2-3 mins.
4. Is the 4oz Haakaa suitable for those with larger breasts or a high milk supply?
If a mom has a larger amount of breast milk or larger breasts that require a breast pump with more suction, we recommend trying the 150ml/5oz Haakaa Breast Pump. Larger capacity, stronger suction, and has a upgrade suction base for stand steadily.
5. What time of day is best to express breastmilk?
The easiest time to express milk using a breast pump is in the morning! For the rest of the day, it’s best to express 30 mins to 1 hr after feeding your bub. You can also catch let-down with Haakaa from the other breast while your baby is feeding.

I got this as a second Haakaa to have on hand because I loved my first one so much!The Haakaa works wonders collecting excess milk after my baby has finished nursing. Super easy to use – I just fold back the flange, place my breast in, fold the flange back up, and let the milk flow! After my little one started sleeping through the night, I started waking up with very full breasts. In my experience, it is best to use the Haakaa after youâve finished nursing and not as a primary âpumpâ as it doesnât collect any of my milk in the morning, instead I just hand express. I guess our babies are just really good at getting the milk flowing naturally!I got the cover because I thought it would be convenient to protect against accidental spills but I honestly never use it because I usually just immediately empty the Haakaa into a jar to go straight into the freezer. I did test the cover though (with water, I was too nervous to test it with milk lol) and it is completely leak proof!I also love that the Haakaa itself has measurement markers, super easy to know how much milk youâve collected before emptying into whatever storage source you may choose. Bought this because all my friends had great things to say about this. Plus itâs small and discrete. Can use while travelling, in the car, on a plane etc. I got it mostly so I can use it at night without having to use the Spectra in the living room. I just put it on, and let it do its thing and it fills up quite fast. It also doesnât make the nipples uncomfortable like with an electric pump. Hands down would recommend to any new moms. Also, very easy to clean too.
I use it to collect leakage while feeding. I can get 4 oz in it to freeze while baby eats. Definitely helpful to create a little stockpile before returning to work.
