Even a shabby case would have been nice to keep the dust off this nice little device. Still, a worthwhile purchase
Other than what I mentioned in the headline, I also like that itâs easy to use. Iâm one of the few who do, but I always read instructions on a new product. On this thermometer, I wanted to see if I could use it first by just using it. I could. I wasnât sure about one of the buttons on the display before I read the instructions, but that didnât keep me from using it. One place I tried it to check for accuracy was on my meat smoker. I had my smoker set for 200°, and when I checked the temp with this thermometer, it read 199. When I opened the Traeger app, it told me the actual temperature in the smoker was 199. Another test I have no idea about the accuracy, but after driving my 6.2L F-150 for a short distance (less than 5 minutes), I turned it off and checked the temperature of the exhaust manifold where itâs bolted to the engine. It read 560°, which seemed about right.
The thermometer works great, it even has a continuous scan feature where the temperature will be continuously read as long as the trigger is held in place. It also records max/min readings and has a setting to define if an audible alert should be triggered if the temperature read is too high or too low. Both the laser pointer and the backlit screen can be set on and off as well using the buttons near the display. The display has large numbers and symbols that allow for an easy read off.My only issue with this is the angle of the laser pointer compared to the sensor area of the thermometer: the manual indicates that the temperature shown on the screen is the average of the reading area; however, during use, I noticed that the temperature sensor is pointed a bit higher (about 2 degrees) than the laser indicator measuring at about 6ft away from a device that I know gets hot so I would need to point higher than the laser projection to get the temperature reading off the hot device I am interested in knowing and there seems no easy way to fix this without disassembling the device to adjust the angle.
The Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun has been a fantastic addition to my kitchen, especially for BBQing. Its wide temperature range and non-contact laser technology make it incredibly versatile for cooking and grilling. The high and low-temperature alarms provide an extra layer of precision, ensuring my dishes are perfectly cooked. The adjustable emissivity is a thoughtful feature that adds to its overall functionality. Whether I’m checking the temperature of my BBQ or cooking in the kitchen, this thermometer has become an essential tool in my household.
I do like non-contact thermometers for testing all sorts of surfaces. I did a test by running pure hot water from my tap and doing a continuous measurement, and it quickly rose from 75 through 85 and up to 119.1, settling down around 118.9. Since the heater is set to 120, I’d call this fairly accurate, especially since it was going into a cold basin at the time. Using two (included) AAA batteries is easier than my last unit, which used a 9V, too.
