Fun Motor Skill Development
You’re not going to be doing any prog rock covers on this little kit, but if you have a small child in your life (say a niece or nephew) then this will get them started on that journey!It’s a fun, relatively durable, little drum kit that will keep them entertained until 4 or 5 at the high end as the size is pretty compact. I didn’t find any sharp edges or overly small pieces, and assembly is very easy.Overall it really is a lot of fun and well worth the price!

Fun for ages 1-4
I say ages 1-4 as the set is a bit on the smaller side. Older kids will find it a bit cramped and not “old enough”. But for 1-4 this is a lot of fun with tons of sounds and lights. The mic requires you to get fairly close or else it doesn’t pickup the voice well. Sound quality was fine for a toy.
Toddler Drum Kit
This is a great musical toy set for toddlers age 12+ as labelled. It takes 4x AA batteries and makes all sorts of sound and light effects. Our nephews are at the house frequently and the youngest will be entering the right developmental age to use something like this very soon, so we’re eagerly awaiting time to reveal it! Our older daughter (almost 7) helped test it out but isn’t interested in playing with it much over her more mature toys and the real instruments in our house. I will say parents be prepared, you’re going to want to make sure you turn it off after play time every time! It’s easy to make this thing make a lot of noise, and having raised a small child, I know I regretted leaving noisy toys on at 5am on several occasions, whether it was the kiddo or a cat that found it.
Son is obsessed
My 2.5 year old son is obsessed with this toy – although he loves most musical toys.The drumset is very easy to put together, although it does require 4 double A batteries, which is a bit of a bummer (I buy rechargeable ones now though, so not so bad).Each of the different drums and symbols make the appropriate noises when hit. You can also play different songs or different games depending on what setting you put it on – it has 3. You can also slightly adjust the volume by picking volume 1 or volume 2. The biggest hit for my son though is the microphone. He spent an hour just yelling into it ( fun for all :S ). It’s not the strongest pickup – you have to get quite close for it to magnify your voice, but it is fine for a toddler. The only downside is the mic is plugged in to the drum set via aux and the connection is sometimes shaky. Sometimes it stops working and you need to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again.I’m a little leary on how long it will last, because of the mic connection issues. I did also have one time where it just stopped working all together. But I turned it off for a while and then turned it back on and it was fine. Overall this is a fun toy for young children, especially ones like mine that are obsessed with musical toys.
Great for kids, not so great for adults
What I mean by that subject line is that this was not the easiest to get the back plate off and the provided screwdriver is just too tiny for me to get a grip on and it was about to strip the screw holding down the battery plate. I ended up using my computer screwdriver set to get the screw out but I worry it may have a short life as the metal is so soft. Message to the manufacturer, stop tightening these screws so much, there is no need.Once past that, this takes 4 AA batteries. Well, that’s a lot and I hate throwing out batteries so thought I’d get rechargeable and do a little something good. But no, the instructions specifically state to NOT use rechargeable batteries. Per my BF there could be several reasons why this is, but likely is that this product is using old incompatible tech. So not fun for adults having to put out for four AA non-rechargeable batteries every so many hours of toy play.Speaking of play, this is where this product redeems itself somewhat. The kids love it and it keeps them busy on days they can’t be outdoors exploring. It has lots of things to play and experiment with, a mic to sing, drums, midis, etc.So 4 stars for the kids, 3 stars for the adults = 3.5 stars.
