Great mattress
Purchased 2 mattress for a day bed. Have been sleeping on them during the remodel of my main bedroom. Truly comfortable. However firm means firm not hard. Also slight panic the box was printed XL but the mattress was regular length. I price shop prior to my purchase and it is a great value.
Huge improvement over previous mattress – some degradation over time
I was previously using a smaller cheap spring mattress with no box spring. This is the first memory foam mattress I’ve used, and it was definitely a huge improvement. I’m happy with my purchase.I was a bit concerned that the “firm” rating, especially with the low thickness, might be *too* firm. However, I’m pretty happy with the firmness of it – I would want something softer for a pillow but I think it’s right for a mattress. It is very comfortable. It does have a faint odour (as I understand is typical for memory foam mattresses) which still lingers almost a week later but this may be because I haven’t properly aired it out. The odour is fairly mild and does not disturb me.I got this on sale for about $180. I probably wouldn’t pay the list price for this product (currently $645 according to Amazon) though I might pay Amazon’s price of $363.EDIT 2016-Aug-28:I’ve had this for about eight months now. While I’m still fairly happy with it – it’s certainly an improvement on the cheap spring mattress I had before – I’ve noticed that it has started to sink a little more in some places.I’m using a metal platform bed (specifically Lucid® by LinenSpa Foldable Metal Platform Bed Frame and Mattress Foundation) which – while the description claims it should be suitable for a memory foam mattress – has the wires further apart than generally seems recommended. That could also be the cause, or perhaps it’s a combination.I might try adding a plywood board between the mattress and the frame with some holes drilled in it so the mattress can breathe. It seemed to work best for the short time I had it on the floor so maybe a flat surface would help. However, that could just be because it was brand new then. So failing that, I might replace it with something thicker and less firm, in which case I’ll probably knock another star off this review.
Firm and comfortable
Is very comfortable, firm, and provides good support. An optimal budget choice for a mattress.
It’s the equivalent of sleeping on a hard floor on a good foamy
The mattress arrived promptly and well packaged. There was virtually no smell however it never expanded to its full 5 inches leaving it to be very thin. The mattress was intended for a child’s bed with slats which would be fine although if she were to sit between the slats it drooped slightly. We’ve switched it over to a platform bed and the mattress is very soft and if it were 5 inches would be very comfy however it falls short in width and comfort as we can feel the platform below. It’s the equivalent of sleeping on a hard floor on a good foamy.
Great product
I bought this for my daughter to replace her futon mattress as she was waking up broken everyday on that thing. Literally one night sleep on this and all her back and neck pain were gone. I picked this one because I have a lucid memory foam mattress and it is heavenly. Out of town relatives that have slept on my bed have gone home and bought the same mattress they loved it so much. I knew I could trust this to be a great but affordable solution and it is just that. The five inches is a little thin appearance wise on the futon but the comfort is still there.
Not firm
Says firm but is slouchy at best
Some thoughts on preparing to use this mattress:
UPDATE: You should be aware that mold is a significant issue with this type of mattress! One of my 3 lb puppies threw up on my bed, and I thought I had absorbed most or all of the liquid (there really wasn’t much) – but a month later I discovered mold on the bottom of my mattress. You can wash the outer cover of the mattress – but the inner foam is VERY hard to clean! Be aware of this issue: and oh – you should know that other people who have complained of this problem have been told by the company that it’s obvious that the company tells us that this type of mattress should be placed only on a slat system that has significant breathing under the mattress. Nice to know. After you have the problem. (So now I’ve had to go to the expense of replacing the whole mattress – and now I cover it with a waterproof pad.)UPDATE: After using this mattress for 10 months – it has significantly thinned out in the area under my butt – and for the last week I’ve been experiencing severe muscle pain and cramps. I’m not sure this ‘failure’ of the foam to remain supportive all across the mattress is the cause of this pain – but you should be aware that these mattresses may only have a useful life of a little less than a year before they lose their support in areas…………………………………………………………….I’m waiting for this bed to ‘rise’ for 48 hours before I use it – as the instructions suggest – and so I thought it was worthwhile for those of you considering this bed/mattress to know what you should do before you use it:The bed comes tightly rolled up – inside plastic – inside a box. What I didn’t notice until after I had cut off the plastic, is that inside the bag that has the instructions – Lucid is kind enough to include a great plastic bag cutter that will greatly reduce the chance that you will cut the mattress as you cut the plastic off it!Memory foam needs to ‘rise’ for several days after you unpack the tightly rolled mattress. And it needs to air out and ‘off gas.’ It’s normal for it to have a strong smell at first – so I took the mattress down to the basement and – at first – set it on a large table – but then realized it would get more ‘air’ if I set it on sort of ‘frame’ that supported it in just a few places – so that the mattress could get air from below – and above.I noticed that after rising for about 6 hours – the mattress was still only 4 inches thick – so given that Lucid recommends not using it for 2 days after you take it out of the box/bag – I suggest you plan ahead a couple of days before you throw out your old mattress 🙂
I purchased this to replace the mattress in the v-birth of my boat. Gave it a couple days in the garage on the floor to expand. It cut easily to fit the contour of the bow. I put a water proof cover on it and slept on it that night. No odor to speak of and I slept very well on it. I did notice it was harder than I had expected, not like traditional foam mattress toppers. I plan on ordering another sometime to replace the seat cushions at the table. Will update after a summers of use on the boat!! I recommend it for sure!
Perfectly FIRM surface, with just the right amount of cushion. Anyone with back problems will absolutely adore this mattress. You will absolutely need a flat surface for it to lie on, though. Box springs work well with it, so no worries there. But wooden slats are likely to get uncomfortable. This is very much a Swedish/Asian style mattress, which was EXACTLY what I was looking for. If you don’t like the 8-10 inch memory foam mattresses because of how much you sink down into them, this is the mattress you’re looking for. It reminds me of IKEA’s firm foam mattresses, but with a little more cushion/comfort.Expanded fully within 48 hours, probably 24 hours, but I gave it an extra day to be sure it was done expanding. Cover seems to be decent quality, but not waterproof – you may want to get a waterproof cover. Can easily be “upgraded” to be softer with a topper, too. Bottom of the cover is non-slip, so it will stay put on a hard floor. Not as heavy as other memory foam mattresses I’ve owned, and I can move it around by myself fairly easily, though it flops around a bit more than thicker mattresses do. Probably ideal for moves. No smell… then again… I stuck it in a different room to expand. However, I didn’t notice any weird smell while unpacking it, either. It came with a box cutter to assist in unpacking, which was quite thoughtful. My & my SO’s first night on this mattress was AMAZING. We both slept SUPER hard. We both woke up in the morning with less back pain. One week later… we both still love this mattress! It’s held up very well, and continues to bring relief to me at night (nerve issues). SO reports his back pain has completely disappeared. I normally am a light sleeper, and thought by now I would be restless at night again… nope. I still sleep so hard, he says I snore, lol. It’s REALLY hard to get up in the morning simply because I don’t want to leave this bed, lol.
I ordered six of the Lucid five inch mattresses two years ago and loved them right away. It has been 2 years now and since I am always looking for reviews on product longevity I thought someone might find this review useful. Some background info as far as usage is concerned: these mattresses are in our boys rooms. We have six boys ranging in age from 2 to 16 and weight from 38 to 200 pounds. The mattresses are placed on built in beds with platforms for support (as recommended). What we LOVE about these mattresses:1. These beds are comfortable. I don’t just mean acceptable for kids comfortable. I am talking about if you lay down to help your toddler take a nap you will likely be taking one, too. We seriously were not expecting this level of comfort for such a reasonable price.2. They come with a removable washable zipper case. Clutch if you have messy boys and like clean beds. It’s not water proof though, so if you need protection be sure to get an appropriate mattress pad.3. The smell some reviews are talking about I don’t even remember. I’m not saying they didn’t smell at first, I’m just saying it can’t have been that bad or I’d remember.4. All six mattresses went from pancakes to fully inflated in a few hours. It was magical.5. My boys sleep like a dream every night, and when we leave the house for road trips or vacations they look forward to coming home so they can sleep in their own beds.6. Quality. No joke, not one of these mattresses sags in two years. No flipping required to keep them comfy. Neither the memory foam on top nor the base foam layer underneath have shown any signs of wear. If I didn’t know they had been slept on for the better part of 730 nights, I wouldn’t believe it.Things we don’t love about these mattresses:1. In two years I can honestly say we have experienced zero cons. None. Nada. Zip.I 100% recommend these matresses. If you’re on the fence, give one a shot. On a final note, my husband and I just built a house including built in beds for our 5 girls, and we are DEFINITELY purchasing these mattresses for all of them. We are also bringing the six still pristine condition 2 year old mattresses along for our boys. Just saying.
These are pretty amazing for a 5 in mattress. We purchased 2 of these for our pop-up camper, as the old mattresses were 4 in thick and i knew i could squeeze and extra inch in, and cut them down to size. To do so we had to remove outer removable cover and cut end seem of the inner non removable cover. Then we just marked the dimensions we wanted with a sharpie and cut it easily with a hack saw, before putting the covers back on (just folded extra material right now, but will probably sew a new seam eventually). At 5 in thick i wasn’t expecting these to be as comfortable as they are, but they are as comfortable or even more so than my 18 in pillow topped mattress on our main bed. I almost fell asleep as i just meant to test it out in place 🙂 The added memory foam seems do help a good bit at cushioning motion on the pop-up camper as well (not completely gone but definitively better than it was before). Will have to see how they hold up over time but for now very pleased. The toughest part is finding fitted sheets and mattress protectors that work well on a 5 in thickness as they all seem to be made for 15+ inch mattresses. As a note, a full sized (not extra long) fitted sheet fit ok (still a bit loose) before we cut the dimensions down.
