Inexpensive Premium Quality Shelves Made Of Real Wood!
Our basement is finished in tongue and groove pine boards which originate from the forest that surrounds us. When we want to add shelving, we always look for something that will complement them. Given that these shelves are constructed of real laminated pine boards with a natural finish, they were the perfect choice!Requiring assembly, the shelves arrived tightly packed in a sealed plastic wrapper; the hardware needed for the job was packed separately in a small reusable plastic case which included a tiny level and a small Philips screw driver. Putting the unit together wasnât a problem. Everything is precisely engineered and slips into place nicely; two small dowels and four one and a quarter inch screws are used to hold each of the shelves together (no drilling is required to assemble the shelves, the holes for the screws are predrilled). To hang the shelves on the wall you will need a drill and, if you are placing the shelves on drywall, a 5/16â bit to drill holes for the wall anchors (included in the kit). If you are serious about having your shelves hang level, I would highly recommend using a proper full sized level in place of the one that comes with the set.The two shelves have a nice semigloss finish (I assume itâs lacquer) and are perfectly smooth. The finish serves to highlight the beautiful grain of the wood. When assembled there is no play, everything is tightly secured. They sit nicely against the wall and are strong enough to hold most anything placed on them (the product page states they can hold up to 35 pounds per shelf). At sixteen inches, the shelves are not very long but are wide enough to hold all manner of ornaments or other knick knacks. They would work well in a nursery where the rail would allow for the placement of such things as small stuffed animals or books. It should be noted that the unit does come with a selection of small decals which can be used to add some extra character to the unit (I generally find that they detract from the natural wood look).While designed for the nursery, these are finely crafted shelves which would look great in any almost any room of the house. Simple lines and their natural wood finish give them a decidedly minimalist appearance which would fit well with most modern decor. At their current price of $23 CAD (with coupon), this lovely pair of floating shelves provide an inexpensive way to display anything from toys to collectibles. Highly recommended!

The pictures online show some inconsistencies in that at one end we seem to have a bare wood/unfinished surface that is very pale, and in others we have a slightly darker laquered finish. The final product is on the lighter side, though it is finished with some clear coat – though not heavily.It is a nice all wood set of shelves that is pretty simple and easy to put together. If you are looking to stain it however you would need to sand slightly to remove what appears to be just a clear top coat and not much if any stain.For my purposes I like the colour as is – i like the fact that we can make out all the grain patterns of the wood. No laminate or particle board here – just pieces of wood. Great for a nursery or even to use in the shed to store aerosol cans.
