The all-time favorite, now with sound button technology.
There are 28.9 million children under the age of five in the U.S. and all of them will need to be toilet trained. This classic book has already helped millions of parents get their children through a life milestone with ease and some entertainment too.
With Once Upon a Potty, a parent reads the book to their child or allows the child to read it while on the potty. Not surprisingly, the book takes some wear. This new edition will withstand such heavy use.
The four sound buttons cover the essentials, with a dose of amusement: a fanfare for success; kitty meows (is it a milk bowl?); birds singing; and the flush-it’s-all-gone finale. The three AG-13 button cell 1.5V batteries are removable and replaceable, and access is childproof.
Since 1975, Once Upon a Potty has been THE potty training book. It has it all: bright graphics, simple language, a fun story and an anatomically correct hero. With an edition for each gender, the book relates directly to the child, making potty-training relatable and easy to understand. More than four million copies have sold worldwide.

Such a cute potty training book! I think this book really helped it click for my little guy. I love how you can purchase the book specific for a boy or specific for a girl so the information is relevant and they can relate to the content. Will suggest to my friends with children that have yet to potty train!
I remember my parents reading this book to my brothers …
I remember my parents reading this book to my brothers and I. They claim that all they had to do was read it once or twice, and we were potty trained – maybe a fluke but I’ve heard the story enough times to buy copies for the children of friends.
My first nefew will be born in july
I read the book and will be giving in to my sister in law for her baby shower.i had the girls version in 1984.we never knew they made a boys version. So happy i found one. I also have a niece born recenltly. Girls formher and boys for him. So fun. Good memories. Arrived on time and in tip top condition.
My 2 year old loves it
Yes, the pictures are a bit outdated. Yes, the author uses “wee-wee” for penis. But it says right in the front that she recommends parents replace any words she has chosen for terms you, the parent, would rather use. (You don’t HAVE to read a book exactly as the author wrote, you know). Also, the white ceramic pot looks just like the white plastic pot that is inside our Safety 1st potty chair that I bought in May, 2004. Just take apart the potty and show it to your child.
Great book
We purchased once upon a potty (girls) for both of my daughters and it was one of their all time favorites. We purchased this one for boys as a Christmas present for our nephew. I’m sure he’ll love it too.
I highly recommend it. It would make a great gift
Our two and a half year old son loves the book and I think it has helped speed up potty training. I highly recommend it. It would make a great gift.
Perfect
Love it
My two year old grandson loves this book. He will be potty training soon so I bought this book for him. He wants to read it all the time.
Excellent book. My son loves it
An adorably illustrated and written book for potty training. So colourful and my little boy loves it. Good quality book.
This book and its sister volume, I consider do the job perfectly. Both my son and my neice (one in UK and other in Aus)had reached a stalled staged in their potty use development. Both kids dry at night from 2 years oldbut both adamantly opposed to doing “big job”s outside of their nappies. I found this book in a desperate bid to find a solution (I had maintained a levelhead throughout to avoid further hangups relating to this natural process, but could see no end in sight without a child’s explanation of this bodily process.Within one reading my son had processed the information (it was like seeing the proverbial light bulb go on) and never looked back at his disappearingnappy.I immediately sent the sister copy to my brother addressing it specifically to my neice and needless to say the book again did the trick.I really liked the matter of fact approach to the subject combined with simple but informative images; and the approach taken by Joshua’s mother provides acalm and safe atmosphere to explore the topic. It is absurd that there is griping about the way the potty looks (a bona fide chamber pot) and the useof US vernacular in the text. Kids are not dumb; they can still process information even though the pictures don’t exactly reflect their known world and,as has already been noted, it is easy enough to subsitute your preferred words for body bits etc. The important aspect for my son was the drawings. He feared the feeling of the bowel motion and what it produced, by reading this book his sense of control was reinstated. At the time of purchase it was the only one of its kind, that I could unearth, which took a mature clinical look at a pivotal point in toddler developmentand aimed it at that age group. I am glad now that other books for kids have since been published that treat the topic sensibly.
