So one thing about my dad is because he has lost his vision and he is not very mobile, being in bed and drinking something, he always needs a straw now and I have to hold the cup for him every now and again. Often, he will tip it over or it falls over and he feels badly about himself when that happens. Its just one more thing to remind him of how impossible so much has become for him. He also has the shakes and that can cause a problem as well.This cup has been wonderful!!!Now, he’s able to drink on his own without me having to hold the cup anymore and he’s able to handle it with his shakes. The functionality this has provided him is fantastic but what’s even more important is the sense of self esteem and the fact that it’s one more thing he can still do for himself amidst all the things he can no longer do and must rely on me for.And he doesn’t have to feel bad when the cup tips over because it doesn’t soak the bed! Again, it’s not his fault and he can’t do anything about it but having this cup now allows him to feel better about himself and he doesn’t have to feel so bad if it tips over.So ok… there are a couple of straws and you can read all about that up above in the description, but basically the shorter standard type of straw is more firm and the long, coily straw is flexible and has a weight on the end, which is nice, because that keeps it in the cup. However, to be honest, this straw has extra room so it coils inside the cup, so that’s not really as much of an issue, but I will say that it’s nice because it holds it firm and steady and you don’t have to worry about the straw popping out.It also has two soft tips that you can put one with a hole and the other with the kind of four-way flaps that you get on the drink from the fast food restaurant that you put your straw through… I don’t really know how else to describe it or if it has its own proper name but, he can utilize that if he just wants to try to sip from the cup itself. Even so, we are more so comfortable with him using the flexible straw through the other tip that has the hole where the straw comes straight up through it.So, I wholeheartedly recommend this product. It is very easy to use and it’s easy to clean (comes with a short straw brush but you may want to use a longer one for the coily straw), and it saves you so much clean-up from drink spills.But, again, the most important part is it allows someone with a disability or someone who is elderly feel that in a world where they’re losing their ability to do everything on their own, there is something they can still do for themselves. And that…that is the most important thing of all.
My mother in law needs to keep her feet/legs elevated to keep down swelling and inflammation. This means that drinking is often a challenge, since not only is she lying back, but her hands arenât as steady as they used to be.Once I figured out how the cup goes together, I had no problem filling it up – I did manage to shoot water up in the air to test it, but once it was all together there was virtually no leaking. I had to turn the cup nearly upside down before water dripped out.The mug like handle is also a great help. I aimed the lid with the sippy part 90 degrees from the side of the handle that she uses to pick up a drink for ease of use.Itâs stylish enough that an elderly person wouldnât be embarrassed about using a âsippy cupâ since this is one color and attractively designed.
PILSAMAS Multifunctional Adult Sippy Cup for the Elderly, Spill Proof, Easy to Grasp HandlesThis is a well-made, high-quality stainless steel cup that is designed to make drinking and eating much easier for the elderly. We got this for my elderly and sickly mother-in-law, whoâs not quite ready to use it, but probably will soon.We like the fact that it looks like a completely normal drinking cup. The only real difference is that it has a clear lid with 2 small holes in it for a small spout (like on a sippy cup) and a long tubular straw (as opposed to a rigid straw). The cup can be used in three different ways:1. As a sippy cup2. Drink from a longish straw3. Eat/drink liquid food through a larger-diameter tubeThe cup becomes spill proof when the straw is bent over and attached to the small air hole, thereby sealing off both holes.When the time comes for my mother-in-law to use this well-designed cup, weâre quite sure that it will be a significant asset in her care, making her feel more confident and secure as she drinks.
I got this as a joke for my wife. The kids always seem to knock over her drink no matter where she leaves it. This thing actually works really well. No more water spilled all over the place.
Purchased for my father who is not mobile and is 88 years old. He is able to use the cup with out issue and we all like the fact that it is spill proof and that there are measurement markings on the inside to keep track of how much liquid he is actually getting. So far, have only used the sippy cup feature with the long straw which is nice because you don’t have to have it lifted very high up to use. Overall, very happy with this cup so far.
