Despite being named after the ‘fleece’ coat on a sheep, it’s 100% synthetic and derived from plastic rather than a fluffy sheep’s coat – despite being fuzzy to the touch. The Bottom Layer of PortableAnd’s Black & White Picnic Blanket is made of PEVA.

PEVA (polyethylene vinyl acetate) is a non-chlorinated vinyl and is commonly used as a substitute for PVC(polyvinyl chloride) – which is a type of chlorinated vinyl. PVC should generally be avoided where possible. So products manufactured from PEVA is considered to be a healthier alternative to PVC products. PEVA is a highly recyclable plastic, and most modern plastic recycling facilities should be able to handle PEVA products.

We have been using a new PEVA for bottom layer since last year October. It is reinforced with materials that are particularly strong in pulling forces. This greatly enhanced the durability of the blanket’s most important floor.
