Simple Recipes for a Wholesome Start

Nothing compares with making your own baby food: It’s fresh and unprocessed, you choose what goes into it, and it is a delicious way to introduce your child to a world of flavors. In Real Baby Food, Jenna Helwig helps you fit this loving act into a busy day’s routine by making the process easy, fast, and flexible with 100 meals to begin a lifetime of healthy eating—from the moment your baby takes her first bite of solid food through her toddler years when she’s happily ensconced in a booster seat at the family table.

Real Baby Food is your guide to these important first years of eating. Find the building blocks of starting your child on solid foods, how to recognize food allergies, and easy ways to cook in bulk. Recipes progress from single-ingredient purées to multi-flavor blends like Salmon, Kale, and Sweet Potato Smash; then move on to finger foods—Turkey Meatloaf Bites, Maple Graham Animals—and finally toddler meals and snacks. Most can be made ahead and frozen, many are easily adapted for grown-up tastes, and all include full nutritional information.

  1. Great recipe book for little ones !
Bought this book as I am about to begin introducing my 6 month old solids. As a first time mom I have no idea where to begin or what I can and can’t feed him, the only thing I do know is that I want to feed him homemade natural whole foods and skip on the ready made jar food. Upon reading reviews I decided on this book and I am so glad I did. It arrived today (four days from ordering with standard shipping) and I quickly looked through it. The recepies are simple and straight forward and healthy and aren’t elaborate complicated meals that would be far too time consuming. It is sectioned in different stages with recepies from purees to toddler food that you can easily incorporate into meals for the whole family. The bonus of this book is that there are tips along the way on how to feed your baby to what to feed them at all the different stages. With precautions about chocking hazards and even charts that tell you which foods mix well with others.I’m super excited to try out these recepies and begin my baby’s food journey. I love that from the very start I will be able to introduce a variety of flavours to him to hopefully avoid much picky eating in the future. The book is filled with beautiful and colourful pictures. Overall I am impressed and happy with my purchase and recommend it to anyone.

  2. Must Buy!
Love this book. It is super easy to use and the food pairing chart is wonderful. Before purchasing this book I logged a bunch out of my public library to figure out which one met our needs. This book is super easy to use, straightforward, and laid out very logically. Well worth the investment.

  3. Great book with great recipies
We use this book with our two children and they love the food. The recipes are kid and parent friendly. One of our favourites is the baked oatmeal.

  4. Handy to have
My daughter’s pediatrician recommended this book as he suggested. We feed her real food rather than food on the shelf. Super helpful and super informative And easy instructions

  5. Good book for starting solids
My doctor recommended this book. It’s a good read for starting solids. And I bought a previously used book for cheaper. It was in pretty good condition

  6. … food recipes and feeding guidelines in this book are great and I love that she suggests lots of combinations …
The baby food recipes and feeding guidelines in this book are great and I love that she suggests lots of combinations for purees that you might not think of on your own, but are really tasty. The recipes for older babies and toddlers are flavourful and the whole family enjoys eating them. A few have become items that I always keep in the freezer for a quick healthy bite for either my son or myself.

  7. In love with this book already
In love with this book already! A lot of baby food prep is common sense however when you’re zonked from raising a baby (or twins in our case) you just want something that spells it out and this book does just that! It also looks pretty which is always a plus 😊

  8. My go-to book for my baby food!
Great recipes, easy to make and enough to make ahead to freeze. It is laid out by age, shows nutrition info for each recipe and different ways to add flavor or to use the recipe when your child is older. Very healthy food, only downside is it could use some more grain and allergen food recipes for the first baby stage.

  9. I like it so far. Many information about baby nutrition.its great for first time mom 😃

  10. Recetas y tips para alimentar a tu bebé.

  11. Love it!!

  12. This. Is. My. Favorite! Seriously. I love this book. I bought it on a whim as I was in a food rut for the baby and the adults. I have cooked probably about half of this book and have enjoyed nearly every recipe. Two have been ho-hum, but most have become regular staples. For example, tropical pork, HECK YES. So easy and so good. My 11 month old at the time, carried around his pork medallion for over an hour, eating it and sucking on it, he was terribly upset when we decided pork was not the best thing to carry around the living room. We eat the mac n’ cheese probably 2-4 times per month, and ricotta on toast, GENIUS! I don’t want to ruin all the surprises, but what I can tell you is my guests with children probably think I am crazy, I have pulled this book down at birthday parties, dinner parties, and coffee dates, just to rave about it. Add cute pictures and great information, it is perfect. We bought it as a baby led feeding family, but it has delicious purees, wonderful family meals, and great advice for all types of diets. It certainly helps bring out the adventurous eater in our little one!UPDATE 7 years later! We’ve added one kiddo in 2017, but this is still a go to book! I still make all the recipes above as well as a few others. Still recommend it to all new and seasoned parents. It really is such a sweet little book, hope you find some recipes you love as well!

  13. Brilliant for 1st time mums
