A fantastic and safe baby/puppy gate at a good price
We purchased this gate to keep our adventurous puppy from romping around upstairs unsupervised, and it has worked very well.Assembly is very easy, with simple to follow instructions. The opening at the bottom of our stairs was the maximum 38″ that this gate can fit into, so I had to use extensions and the friction wall mounts extended all the way, but it did fit. I really like that this gate can swing both directions so that it can swing to the left or right, that you can lock out one direction of swing and that it closes itself so quickly, all very impressive features that I wasn’t expecting for this price. The opening is adequate and isn’t awkward to maneuver through, even when carrying heavy loads of clean laundry upstairs. I do wish the friction wall mounts stuck to the wall a little better, as the gate will start to tip backwards if our puppy jumps up to rest her paws on top of it. I’ve made a pair of brackets at work to secure the top from tilting, but wall mounts with higher friction pads would have worked nearly as well and wouldn’t have required any extra hardware. I do wish the gate had a soft close feature, as the gate closes quiet forcefully and makes quiet a loud noise, but I might add a felt pad to the swing stop to soften the final few degrees of swing.Overall, I’m very impressed with this gate and might even consider getting one for our guest room upstairs so that we can access it more easily than stepping over the solid gate we currently use.
A great solution for puppies
I admittedly used the gate in a not recommended way.I had to use it between a wall and a stair railing, and still, I’d say im pleasantly surprised by the results, the door is very sturdy and easy to use, id says the only major fault about this product is that the unlocking mechanism can be quite loud, to the point that we just keep it open at night, which really isnt an issue.Pros:-It can withstand a 35-pound dog jumping at it-it’s sturdy even in poor conditions-well designed for the most partcons-it can get really hard to get the gate locked in place, especially toward the end-Loud unlockoverall, id recommend this product for people with small to medium-sized dogs, can’t speak on anything larger.
Is it safe?
Install was easy and quick, worked great for a few days. But with some pulling and tugging from my 10month old, he has been able to open the gate. Thankfully no injury occurred but I am not impressed with the safety of this gate.
Sturdy metal gate, but am not sure about the locking mechanism.
Using two of these gates to contain a 10 lb dog in one room overnight. They are installed in 30â doorways so no extensions are used. At this width they are very sturdy and it would take a lot of pressure to move them. During the day I need them to be open, and to hold them open I use rubber door stops with one of the gate stops in the down position.. When open, the gap between the floor and the gate bottom is easily adjusted by changing the vertical angle of the gate. So far, these gates are working perfectly for my needs, but I have concerns re the locks. To open them requires pushing two buttons, but they do not work smoothly and do not always work first time. As I will only be opening the gates once a day, I am hoping they will last a long time, but their sticky operation does not inspire confidence.Update – 3 days later. One of the locks became very stiff. I loosened the screws that hold it together and sprayed Silicone spray through the gap, then tightened it back up. Next morning it worked perfectly!
Perfect!
If you have a baby just learning to crawl and/or walk, this is perfect to block anything unsafe. Itâs very sturdy and adjusts to different size entryways. The automatic closer is a game changer as it makes it easier to open and close.
Lock not working properly?
We returned the first one as the lock was not working (it was very difficult to push in the buttons and when you were able to push in the buttons but dead bolt would not go in). The replacement came in quickly. The buttons seemed to work much better, however, it would still take 5 or 6 attempts to push in the buttons completely to get the dead bolt out and it was not that easy. Then, my husband thought of spaying WD40 into the lock, and guess what, it started working perfectly smooth! Thank God! I thought I would share this trick with people who might be experiencing the same problem.
