I live in a very quiet neighborhood yet I’m plagued by both a mysterious low pitched hum, as well as a very, very high pitched tone. I suspect the high frequency tone is caused by a step-down transformer somewhere but the source of the low pitched hum is unknown.On most nights, I’m not bothered by them but there are nights when they’re sufficiently distracting that it prevents me from falling asleep. The white noise from the Marpac Dohm sound conditioner helps drown out these sounds, enabling me to fall asleep more easily.Sound conditioners aren’t limited to being used late and night to help one sleep. There are times when I’m performing a task that requires concentration and music is too distracting, but so is complete silence. The Marpac sound conditioner helps fill that void.The Marpac sound conditioner works by using a two-speed fan to draw in air through porting in its casing. The top and side of the unit rotate independently, enabling the user to affect the quality of the white noise.The placement and composition of the room, as well as any objects surrounding the Marpac sound conditioner will affect the quality of its sound. Sleeping fairy by your bedside
My spouse and I have been trying to search for a solution for snoring problem… I am an ultra sensitive sleeper and I could still hear the snoring despite using ear plugs. We tried nasal strips, humidifiers, essential oil, raising the bed, even putting construction ear muffs on top of my ear plugs. Tried this machine for a few nights and it’s been amazing. This machine worked so much better than white noise YouTube videos we played on our laptop (we kept cranking up the YouTube volume to cover the snoring but turns out to be super loud and obnoxious). I placed the machine beside my head and the noise sounds natural because it’s not from a recording but from a real fan. When used together with ear plugs, somehow the frequency blends in with the snoring (which is deeper and lower frequency that usually penetrates the ear plugs) and gave me miraculously uninterrupted nights of good sleep. When my spouse got out of bed for work, I didn’t even feel a thing and kept dreaming on! Definitely worth a try if you’ve tried everything like us!
Exactly what I expected. Not disappointed !
Bought as a gift. I have no experience with white noise machines and it took me a while to decide between this one or one that runs on a loop but I decided on the more natural sound and bought this one. I tested it to see if I could hear the motor sound that others talk about when its on the highest setting. Yes, there is a very slight sound but in my opinion, the hum of the motor adds to the noise cancelling. You can adjust by switching to high and low and also by twisting the top and middle sections. Smaller than expected which is great, it has a nice heavy feel to it but can easily be moved around by anyone. The loud setting is perfectly loud and the low setting is also loud enough for a mostly quiet house (if you’re looking to add noise because its too quiet or to drown out cars passing or a restless dog…etc.). It’s a gift for my mother in law so whether or not it will help her sleep, that has yet to be determined but I will try to update my review with that information as soon as I have it. So far so good though, it’s exactly what I expected.
The most natural white noise machine
I purchased this to help with sleeping. I am a light sleeper, and easily disturbed by sound. I knew about the MarPac machine from community acupuncture clinics, where they’re used to block out ambient chatter and to keep more confidential the conversations between acupuncturist and patient in a shared space. They are perfect in that setting and the low whir really is conducive to resting.For personal use, this is a great option. Plenty of settings for different levels of sound. The naturalness of this sound doesn’t engage the mind to listen or pay attention. It’s a bit like steady rain on the roof or a wind that just keeps blowing with consistent force. Many machines are actually playing recording that have a loop that the mind will listen for, this is not that. It’s all generated by a small fan.There are two slight negatives I’ve found with use:1) There is a slight mechanical buzz that is audible under the white noise itself. It’s not anything very loud, but in a small space, it’s noticeable enough that I moved it from near to my bed to the furthest corner of the room (small) so about 7 feet away. I wasn’t expecting it to generate any noise audible over the white noise itself.2) It blocks out outside vehicle noise, chatter in neighboring yards, and dogs barking upstairs, but it doesn’t seem to mask the heavy-footed steps of my upstairs neighbor. I didn’t necessarily expect this, I was hopeful, but if you’re purchasing just for purpose it may not be what you need.

Device is perfect for white noise without changing the room temp. Highly recommend!!
5+ years later, still works amazing
I’ve been using this white noise machine for about 5 years now and I’m obsessed. Living in a noisy apartment, I definitely use this machine every night. No signs of it slowing or getting worn out from daily use during all these years. I’ve travelled with it, recommended it to friends and family, and even bought it for someone as a gift. It’s definitely something that takes a few nights of getting used to when you first buy it, but it honestly works wonders to keep me asleep through all of the environmental noises that I’d otherwise have to deal with. I also LOVE that this is a real fan where I can set the pitch and volume simply by turning the shell and dial. I’ve heard that the digital options can be disruptive due to the loop in the noises. Would highly recommend!!
Much better than running a fan at night. Sits on my nightstand and easy to turn on and off. Without this, I’d be waking up every time the slightest noise occurs. Great restful sleep is just an arms reach away. Build quality is second to none.
I own two of these. The design is simple. Turn the top of the device and as it twists the volume adjusts as the air flowing through is restricted or enhanced. The functionality of this product is certainly there. It only has two settings. This version does not have a battery but rather has a standard power cord. The cord length is generous allowing one to place this deep into a hallway to shield an office or private area from unwanted noise. The cord is also thin enough that you can close a door on it if you need to. One can run one of these for sleep enhancement or to drown out sounds in the background that may impact a remote workerâs online meetings. This is a more expensive solution that using an app on your phone as a sound machine, but it is much louder and more versatile – and you donât have to give up your phone for the task.I have one of these running outside an office and the other running inside a babyâs nursery. In both cases, the product has never failed and I expect will continue to operate for years to come.
It comes from company so it took longer to get.But, I use it every single night, and sometimes during the day. I love the camo color. I have a mix of rough hewn and floral decor.
