SDCC 2025: NECA Preview Night

There was a lot of fun stuff to see at NECA’s booth this preview night. Some things we’ve seen before, some things that are out now and a few things I didn’t know I needed until I saw it tonight.

As usual, there was a ton of horror related figures on show tonight. For me the highlights were some of the Keaton likeness on all the Beetlejuice figures. The sandworm is also just a lovely representation of Tim Burton wakiness in 3D. I’ve also recently watched a ton of the show The Great, which featured Elle Fanning, so I’m super familiar with her face and the likeness of her android character in the new Predator film is perfection.

The Sesame Street characters look so good with all the textures of felt, fur, and feather perfection.

The Metaluna Mutant and two-headed monster were figures we’ve seen, but I loved looking at them in person. Almost pop-art vinyl figures more than traditional action figures. The highlight amongst all the great looking Ninja Turtle figures has to be the 2012 figures. Besides really nailing the look of the four turtles from the show I was really impressed with the battle damaged pieces on the foot ninjas and the weird little companion characters like Ice Cream Kitty

The animated figures have a bit of a vacation theme of late, so it seems appropriate that the 5th Turtle, Slash, would join in. I love the Robot Tokka and Rahzar. I haven’t been reading the continuation of The Last Ronin, but these figures make me want to. I honestly don’t know where Garfield and Odi appeared dressed as Ninja Turtles, but they are really appealing in this style.

e translation of Stan Sakai’s style into 3D is absolute perfection. I need more of this in my life! Gimme some Gen, some bat ninjas, and random grimy cat ronin.

I was also impressed with the likeness on this Superman, no Shooter McGavin here.

Finally, it’s nice to see the Golden Girls get a re-release. I never picked these up individually, but I think I need the set to go with my Jessica Fletcher, but that may just be too much old lady swagger for one shelf.
