Works well but one issue
I always hated filing my nails because it took a long time as you have to file in one direction – edge to centre – so it was tedious, and it was tricky to avoid damaging the edges of the nails. I wish I known about glass nail files a long time ago. I’m surprised to read some others stating that it took a long time to file their nails. That’s the first thing I noticed about it – it filed my nails very quickly. Just a few strokes took off a lot of nail and did so without the usual snagging and splitting of the nails. Also, the edges of my nails were super smooth. I really like that I can rinse the file with water, even wash it with soap and water, so it’s very hygienic.There’s only one thing I don’t like. As I file, there’s a somewhat unpleasant sensation like ‘nails on a chalkboard’ kind of effect. It’s a bit unpleasant but since it takes only a few seconds to file each nail, I only had to suffer this effect for about 40 seconds.
Great Performance and Quality
A glass nail file is the first ever nail-maintenance product that I’ve bothered to research and buy for myself, and I’m glad that I chose 3 Swords.For those of you who are going into nail care blind like I did:The file’s grit seems to be ground into the glass slab itself (i.e., not glued on), in the way that ground glass stoppers are made for volumetric flasks. There seems to be no report on the grit size for this product, but when I use the file on my nails, my nail edges finish very smooth, without any scraggly bits, and even smoother than what I get from clipping my nails only.I’ve seen one or two reviews that say that the file gets dull over time. I’ve only had my file for a day, so I can’t be sure of that yet; however, I suspect that one cause of the “dulling” over time is just the accumulation of powdered nail residue within the grit, stemming from not rinsing the file between uses. The grit is so fine that it really do be like that. I used the file to lightly shape 10 nails, and by the end of that, the file was already opaque with powdered nail residue. (Remember to use soapy water to clean it with, because without the slipperyness, the ground glass tends to grab at skin.)Some reviews say that you get a nails-on-chalkboard sound when using the file. During my test-run, I would only hear that kind of noise when I messed up my stroke direction/angle, which I didn’t allow to happen too often.I’m very happy with this product and if my clumsy self ends up breaking the file, I’d definitely buy from 3 Swords again at this price and delivery time ($8, 3-day delivery).(Note: I wrote this review based on the use of the file on my healthy, unpainted and unadorned fingernails. The product also came with the buffer like advertised, but I’m just not using it.)

Good file, terrible buffer. I have other glass files from a different manufacturer. 1. My review about the glass nail file. I love this 3 Swords model of glass file. It was made as all glass files should be made, etched grit not glued-on abrasive. Glued-on abrasive files cause damage to the nails that isnât always visible. The one thing that I notice about this file compared to my others is that this one is thinner: about 2mm thick compared to 3mm that my other files are. Iâm not sure if it will make a huge difference if dropped as I donât plan on dropping any of them! However, one thing I do like about it being thinner is that it slides easier under the natural nail tip between the nail and the skin. 2. My review about the nail buffer. I actually bought this little kit for the nail buffer, thinking that it was glass. Unfortunately, it is not glass. I assumed it was glass because the description only mentioned glass files. Itâs a cheap material that started chipping within minutes of using it for the first time. It does buff though. But Iâm not happy with it. Iâm not going to bother sending it all back because I donât have the time or energy to waste on returning it. It was $10. Itâll cost me more on fuel to mess around with going to and from the shipping company/post office. 3. My thought on the little case it comes with is that itâs a nice little case. Itâs nothing special and I wouldnât expect it to last a lifetime but itâs great for putting into a satchel or purse! I give this kit a 4/5 because of the buffer only. Please see my video and photo! The “3 Swords Germany” glass nail file is my favourite glass nail file by far!! ð I won’t be taking a chance and ordering any other brand.I’ve bought the “3 Swords Germany” glass nail file twice now: first time was a few years ago. After about a year, I accidentally dropped the nail file and it broke when it hit the ground. At that time, I decided to visit a local beauty store in Toronto and picked up a random glass nail file thinking they were all the same quality. Nope, not at all! LOL The new glass file I had bought had such a rough grit that it was not filing my nails smoothly or as efficiently, and it felt like the file was almost “catching” onto my nail during filling and I was worried it would cause my nail to chip/break. I immediately placed an order for the “3 Swords Germany” glass nail file and this file makes filing my nails soooo smooth and easy. I won’t risk purchasing another brand of glass nail file now that I know they are different qualities of glass nail files! ð
The best!
This is the only nail file I swear by. It was my first glass nail file. I’ve tried others since then and they are always too thick to effectively get into the corners and edges of my natural nails! This one is thin enough to do the job! I just purchased my third one in 10 years (and the only reason I’m having to buy a third one is because it is glass and I’m very clumsy and tend to do my nails sitting on the floor, I have stepped on it and broke it). But I have no problem replacing it because it’s quite inexpensive and by far the best I’ve ever tried!
