Compact, Convenient Tub For Bathing Baby
With a new grand baby on the way, my wife is busy ordering the necessities needed to care for a newborn. Having years ago given away the small plastic tub we used to bathe our children in, she had her eye on this baby bathtub for the last month or so.This handy bathtub is light, portable, and extremely well designed! Like a giant version of our newest kitchen colander, it is designed to easily collapse into a shallow version of itself and it has sturdy legs that fold neatly underneath the unit. If a more compact configuration is required, two support bars that run along either side of the tub can be removed and the unit can be folded in half to store it. Three clips are used to attach the seat/cushion to the unit. The height at which it sits can be adjusted simply by rolling the straps around the clips to shorten their length. The cushion itself is nicely formed and well padded, providing a comfortable resting place for an infant who is being bathed.While the bathtub is a marvel of convenience, it’s the extras it features that really convinced my wife of its value. The built in thermometer is very useful; a small wire sensor is placed in the tub with its ongoing readings appearing on the digital display on the upper edge of the tub. The thermo sensitive drain plug is also handy for checking water temperature. As long as the water temperature is lower than 40°C the drain plug remains a dark blue; at temperatures above 40°C, it turns a lighter blue. The tub has a spot where a shower head can be attached as well as a hole in the frame which can be used for hanging the unit.One of the challenges that exist with tubs such as this is figuring out which bathing location works best for you. Do you bathe baby in the shower? The tub? A kitchen counter? This bathtub holds a fair amount of water which represents a significant weight. Bathing the baby in a tub or shower may be hard on the knees and back but the cleanup is straightforward. Notably, this tub has a nice rubbery section on the bottom which prevents it from sliding in a bathtub. The counter works if carefully supervised, if the baby doesn’t splash too much, and if you can easily slide the unit over a sink for easy drainage. If you plan on using counter space for this tub, you should measure the space before ordering to insure that there is adequate room to house the unit, it is quite large.It should be noted that the manual suggests that the tub’s two side support ribs should be screwed into the tub itself. While recommended, I’m not sure this is necessary as long as the clips that work in conjunction with the screws are intact and functioning correctly. Although the product page says it can be used until a child is three, the size of the bathtub makes me doubt that it would be easy to bathe an active three year old in this tub easily particularly if you wanted to wash the child’s hair.My wife and I really can’t imagine a better infant bathtub. Easy to store, easy to set up, and easy to adjust to an infant’s needs, the unit works with our storage limited space. Its compact construction and the fact it folds down so nicely makes it perfect for travel. Recommended.
