Lids fit snugly to base assuming the rim they attach to wasn’t broken when they were packed.
I needed some containers that were the right height and shape to fit in my pantry cupboard. I thought it was a pity that they were not sold in smaller amounts…but the larger amount is necessary if some arrive broken.Since I have a wheat allergy, I have numerous gluten free flours that need to be combined in specific amounts to mimic products that contain wheat. These need storage in something that seals well and is square…round containers waste space. Trips to the local dollar store where I found some a couple of years ago were disappointing as they no longer were carrying these containers. So I spent a while on Amazon, measuring my pantry and checking product measurements before finding this product. For what I paid, including shipping (listing said free shipping but was not given the option during checkout) and taxes…each of the containers cost me a couple of dollars less than the dollar store price. With three broken containers, that number increased by two dollars and was comparable to the dollar store price. Not sure if it will be worth the hassle to return the whole box. I do have three extra lids and sometimes it is the tabs on the lids that will crack off. This is a dollar store quality item. I have not had issues with that type of item.Shipper is slow to prepare for shipping (which means I might be waiting to organize my pantry if I send it all back), but when it finally was shipped it did not take too long.These containers will seal snugly; I tried them as I was examining the products. The tabs work well as long as there is a ridge there for them to snap onto. Other buyers have had damaged items arriving and have stated that the broken bits were not in the boxes and have correctly deduced that damage has occurred in the facility where these items are made and/or packaged. I too encountered damage to 3 of the 20 bases. There was 1 damaged base in each of three stacks of bases. Some of of the bits were in the numerous bags that enclose the pieces, some bits were still partly attached to the base and a few bits were missing…again this happened where ever they were being packaged. My guess is that the bases are all dumped into a bin and the workers have to grab a base, put a bag on it and stick it inside another base until they have 5 before placing 4 lids in the container and putting a bigger bag round the whole stack. One station is set up to stuff the measuring spoons, pen and crush the label sheet into a stack of 5 and then these stacks probably get moved to the next area where someone packs the boxes with 3 plain stacks, 1 stack with the extras and 4 more lids. I don’t think the bases were dropped. I think the damage occurred in the bins they get picked from or from being banged against another stack. All damaged edges were in a base that was somewhere in the middle of a stack of 5.Box comes with a seal on it that says the “item is not for resale if the seal is broken”. Maybe before the seal goes on some quality control is in order to make sure that bits are not broken.Items are clear enough to see what is inside. Product has the same transparency as other clear plastics. If product was any clearer, it would be glass and none of the bases would have survived packing.

I can not express how much I love this product! It is an excellent value for your money. The airtight containers are nice and long. Boxed spaghetti fit perfectly without issues. We also received free labels and a marker, which was so appreciated. I searched other containers at Walmart and these were so much better constructed and at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommended.
