I loved it until it made everything smell. I leave this patch in the pen I have setup for my puppy and he will use it throughout the night or while Iâm at work. But for some reason it REEKS and I cannot find out why or see other reviews stating the same thing. The smell is so strong it causes headaches & soon as I walk into my door or start walking downstairs to my living room the smell hits you like a wall. It is a very stale/musty like smell, I love the fact my pup uses it but would hate to order another patch and the same problem occur.
The grass patch usually lasts 3-4 weeks and comes very green. This last one had a lot of brown on it. Still, over all, this is a wonderful product that enables our dog to do her thing on the patch on our patio at night rather than me having to walk her at 2 in the morning.
I have a little old dog with Cushing’s Disease who has to pee a lot and can’t make the steps from the deck to the yard so well any more. We walk every day, and during the day I will carry her down the steps, but at 2 am if she needs to go, she needs to go NOW. I decided to put the patches (I bought two to start) under a covered 3’x6′ table on my deck for the winter. The two dogs weren’t interested in the patches for quite a while, but all of a sudden decided they liked to use them. They do get worn out and overpeed every couple of weeks and I switch out one of them at a time. Mostly they only use them at night when I close off the deck steps so the old one can’t fall down the steps. And she seems to be fine with it, so I’m pretty satisfied with the system so far!I keep the patches in the boxes and on plastic tarps or vinyl tablecloths, partially protected from the weather, so they get rained on a little, enough to keep them green. (The dogs don’t care what color the grass is anyway!) So far they don’t seem interested in pooping on them, and choose the yard instead.I’ve never seen any bugs in the patches and I’ve gone through about ten so far since October.
So this grass did not even last two weeks but it did its job. My puppy was using it faithfully. However, she was constantly going and it warranted a visit to the vet. However, itâs get four stars for itâs price. I know a lot of people say this but I honestly did get a patch of sod for $4 from my local nursery.
This pad works great for my senior Chihuahua’s late-night tinkle trips. It doesn’t hold an odor, is not too heavy, and is still green weeks later. I bought the 24 x 24, and it fits my 6-pound dog fine, but I can see this being less than ideal for larger breeds. It is best suited for toy and small-breed seniors needing an occasional patio or balcony potty stop late at night. Just be sure to clean up poop right away. Speaking of poop- this is suited for dogs with healthy, firm stools. This would be a doo-doo disaster for diarrhea doggos.
