My 6year old son got these for Christmas and he played for hours! He loves Minecraft and building legos so I think this combined those two for him.The magnets could be a little bit stronger but they do stick. I purchased an additional set for my son once I realized how much he loved them!
My daughter is into minecraft and she absolutely loves these building sets. I was the girl to play with lego. They say it helped with spatial awareness and we should allow more girls to play with these. Anyway, she’s roped me into her mythical adventure to fight a dragon and keeps making moaning noises at me and blowing things up with TNT. I don’t get it, but she does and she will talk about it for hours and make up new adventures. It’s a way for her to connect with minecraft without being glued to a tablet all day. These blocks help her express herself. I am glad. They are good quality magnets they hold together well. It comes with so many pieces that she can do whatever she wants with it. Though she does wish it came with more base building pieces and chests, but she loves it all the same.
This is one of the higher quality cube playsets with 8-magnets per 2cm (0.8″) cube. Colors are bright and difficult to mar and magnets are strong. This set includes mostly snow themes, along with unwelcome grass with dirt blocks that limit a wintery scene.When combining sets, beware that some sets contain 1″ blocks instead of the 2cm blocks in this set, while others contain six magnets per cube (one per face) instead of 8 (one per corner). Personally, I prefer 8 magnet, 2cm blocks because they take up less space, are less expensive, and seem to stick together slightly better. But kids may find the 1″ blocks are a better size for using other toy characters with.There aren’t enough blocks to complete the setup shown on the cover of the box or on the main product photo. At least one of the photos shows how many blocks of each type you’ll actually receive. I’m not fan of the giant snowflake blocks since snowflakes aren’t that big and they don’t really look good anywhere, imho. There are enough cherry blossoms and tree trunks for 2-3 trees, but not enough blue or white bricks to build anything completely. You basically need 3 sets to get enough for full structures.Four human figure blocks are included to form what might have been intended to be a human prince and princess. But the devious eyebrows on the guy makes him look like a villain and the girl looks like she’s laughing nervously so it’s not a great combination.Each block rattles, which will please young ones. The rattle comes from a magnet near each corner of each cube that can rotate so you can connect any side of any block to adjacent blocks and perfectly align them, or they align on half-block steps as well.Sometimes blocks stick more strongly than other times. I suspect this is because the moving magnets put North poles on one side and South poles on the other, so blocks on the other sides are sticking N/S “sides” of magnets together which is likely a weaker connection. Basically, blocks will stick strongly on the first two opposite sides you connect and more weakly in the other four directions.Each block is plastic outside, formed of a “cup” of plastic with a plastic cap to complete the cube. Colors seem somewhat embedded in the plastic more than printed or stuck on. Whatever the process, it seems durable and is unaffected by light scratching with a fingernail.Overall, the quality of the set makes it worth the price but I dock a star for falsely advertising a scene you can’t create in so many product photos and for throwing together summer and winter blocks so a single set isn’t enough to build a decent scene in either season.
This set is nice with a lot of pieces. My son really likes that there are a couple of character blocks to further imaginative play. There is enough to share between two kids (although I did watch my son slowly con his little sister out of almost all the blocks). They stick together well, but are easy to take apart. My son also liked that it came with a couple of pictorial suggestions on what to build
