The mesh on these fire screen doors looks SO much better for blocking sparks that the screen curtains that are on our fireplace (which has MUCH larger holes and lets a lot of sparks through – photo comparison attached). I could even use both sets at the same time if I wanted to which is nice as well.This is super simple to put together, the instructions are clear and there’s not a lot of parts. There’s 2 legs facing the front, 2 legs facing back and 2 handles, all of which I was able to just hand tighten – though it does come with an allen wrench if you want to use it. I have to keep this pretty far away from the face of my fireplace (due to how our existing glass doors fold out like bifold doors), so the legs facing the back keep this nice and stable even though it’s not leaning against anything. It’s able to fully support itself without any wobbling even when opening and closing both doors at the same time.The doors have a magnet that keeps them closed snugly which is another nice touch. I did add felt to the bottom of both sets of legs so it won’t scratch our concrete surround (not something you really have to worry about if you have tile), but other than that it works perfectly well as-is. And the size is just perfect! I’m really pleased with this screen and would definitely recommend it.
I am admittedly not using this as a fireplace screen. I’m actually using it as a gate to block off a corner to keep my dog out of my cat food. Because this is freestanding it does a great job. I’m able to leave just enough opening that the cats can get in on one end, but the dog cannot. I can also use the doors to easily reach in and replenish food and water without having to reach over a gate. This is also very nice and sturdy, so it holds up to being knocked around a bit. I’m sure it would also serve the same purpose as it was intended in front of a fireplace. The quality is good and it is a solid piece of equipment. I am very pleased with my purchase.
For whatever reason, my fireplace screens that slide have become difficult to move back and forth, especially when hot.So I got this screen to solve that problem and it works great. This is high quality, fairly sturdy and good looking.Much easier to open in front of hot fires than sliding chain mail screens you usually see on fireplaces.Is a great gate and does a good job.
The screen seems to be built well. However, the standalone system needs work. The screen is large and the small legs included don’t quite cut it for proper balance. If I was securing this to my fireplace face it might be more usable but as is whenever you open the doors on it, unless perfectly balanced it will tip over. My old screen has fold out sides which I much prefer as it encloses the sides. The screen is a pretty good value at the price point but could definitely use some improvement on the standalone system.
This looks a bit odd with my curved kiva style fireplace, but it does the job and it does it well. Screen is heavy and a very good quality. I plan to hang some greenery on it when it is not in use. Very pleased with this screen!
