Lanolin is classified as an occlusive moisturizer. This means it works by reducing water loss from the skin, similar to petroleum jelly. While petroleum can reduce the evaporation of skin’s moisture by 98%, lanolin reduces it by between 20% and 30%.1 However, many people like that lanolin isn’t as heavy as petroleum jelly, making it more pleasant to use. Lanolin for Breastfeeding and Sore Nipples During breastfeeding, your nipples may become sore, dry, and even cracked. Many healthcare providers recommend lanolin creams to ease nipple pain from breastfeeding. A 2018 Brazilian study suggested significant improvements in nipple pain and trauma in participants who used lanolin compared to those who rubbed in breastmilk (another common remedy for nipple soreness. Risks of Lanolin If you’re allergic to wool, you’re especially likely to be allergic to lanolin, so it’s probably safest to avoid it. Lanolin allergies may cause the following symptoms: Rash or itching where it was applied Shortness of breath Swelling of the throat, lips, eyes, or mouth If you’ve never tried lanolin before, consider testing a small patch of skin first to determine whether you have a sensitivity to it. Even if you’re not allergic, lanolin can be irritating for some people. Lanolin Poisoning Keep lanolin away from young children who might accidentally swallow a dangerous quantity. This can result in lanolin poisoning. Symptoms are usually mild and may include:2 Diarrhea Vomiting Skin rashes Skin irritation with redness and swelling If severe symptoms develop, call 911.

I loved it for sore nipples, not bad as diaper rush protection
I used this for sore nipples after breastfeeding and as a diaper rash cream since itâs very water-resistant. Itâs 100% lanolin, and you can really smell itâit has that distinct sheep wool scent! Iâm a fan of natural products, and this one is perfect. The downside is that it leaves greasy, slightly yellowish stains, so you have to be careful with clothing. Itâs also quite sticky.
Smells of solvent
I have since learned that I need to look for water extracted lanolin. This stuff seems to have been extracted with some kind of solvent, and smells a bit like paint thinner.
Great for dry skin!
I used this on the skin around my thumb nails. In the winter the skin splits and is painful no matter what lotions I use. At times they bleed. I put this lanolin on a few hours ago and even after my hands getting wet repeatedly, my thumbs feel great and the cracked skin area is still soft to the touch. I would highly recommend this for anyone with dry cracked skin!! Not sticky once worked in to the skin either.
Best lanolin for the price.
It needs to be kept at room temperature in order to be easily applied. Scent is nice and neutral with no nasty perfumes or chemical additives for the body to absorb. Makes skin silky soft and is easily absorbed into skin.Best skin care I ever found.
excellent product
nice quality
Too thick – smells old
Very think and basically unusable. Not like lanolin at all.
