Def worth the investment if you’re looking for something reliable and Hospital Grade!
My wife recently got the Medela Sonata breast pump with the PersonalFit Flex shields, and it’s been such a solid choice. The pump is quite and efficient, which is great when she’s using it late at night or during work calls. The PersonalFit Flex shields have been a game-changer for her comfort, and sheâs really noticed a diffrence compared to other pumps sheâs used in the past. Def worth the investment if you’re looking for something reliable and well-designed for moms.
Love it!
The suction is strong, making pumping quick and easy. Itâs also portable, so I can use it anywhere. Highly recommend it to all moms!
Best portable / battery-powered hospital-grade pump out there
This is an excellent breast pump. Medela is an industry leader and this is why their hospital-grade Symphony pump is the standard for most hospitals. I have used the Medela Symphony, Freestyle, and Sonata. The Sonata combines the best of all three. Here is my take on the product:Pros:1) It is a strong and efficient pump. It is advertised as hospital-grade strength and I would concur that it is very close to the strength of the Medela Symphony, which is what is recommended by most lactation consultants to establish breast milk supply.2) It has the advantage of being portable (battery powered) over the Symphony.3) It is quiet – way more quiet than Freestyle. I have done teleconferences while pumping and no one knows. I will pump in the middle of the night beside my sleeping baby and she will not wake up.Cons:1) It is bulkier and does not have the same battery life as Freestyle (but it’s also a stronger pump). The battery also needs to charge overnight if you’re going to go cordless for the day.2) It is expensive but it’s not overpriced based on the quality and effectiveness of the product. Medela customer support is also fantastic so if you have problems, they will help you and I don’t know if all pump brands are the same.3) The pump parts are bulkier than the Freestyle but they are also sturdier. I found the pump parts wore more with Freestyle. The Sonata pump parts were made to be used a lot. They will trap some milk but the milk has never been trapped in the pump tubing, which is critical, since that would damage the actual pump engine. Some milk trapping is a small inconvenience in the pump parts to protecting the longevity of the pump.
Top of the line system with high costs and long charging times
Bought this after buying and using the Philips Avent pump for almost two months as my milk supply was dropping. This was recommended by my lactation consultant to try and bring my milk supply back up as my baby can not latch properly and I have an inverted nipple.Pros1)Able to be super quiet to pump on regular mode – thereâs also a quiet battery saver mode that can be used instead (can pump at night beside sleeping baby and husband)2)Able to âbreak throughâ some of the clogs Iâve had3)Boosted up milk supply (gradually, compared to same diet same pumping schedule with the Philips Avent pump)4)Built in battery able to pump throughout the night without charging5)Special bra available to double pump hands freeCons1)Many pieces to clean and wash2)Feels like quite a bit of milk remains on the pump parts and doesnât flow into the bottle (every drop counts for me as I have very little milk per pumping session)3)Doesnât massage the breast like the Philips pump did so you might need to hand massage to help break up clogs (as recommended by my lactation consultant to speed things up)4)high cost – pamphlet inside says expected pump lifespan is 1 year used daily5)Long charging time – 12 hours if completely drained6)After spending $500 on a pumping system, still need to spend another $50 to buy a specialty pumping bra to take advantage of the double pump system7)Doesnât include the Calma Solitaire like some of the lower end Medela pump systems8)Doesnât include the different pump phalange sizes – only large sizes included in kit9)Not meant to be mobile like some of the other lower end Medela systems – pump is extremely heavy and bulky
Fast and Luxurious
I bought this product to replace a Medela Swing when I went back to work. I wanted something quieter and faster. This pump, coupled with a bra that holds the pump cups in place, cut my pumping time to between 8 to 12 minutes and kept me working (at the computer) throughout.PROsThe unit times each session on a big screen and offers lots of different suction strengths and two different rhythms. I find the screen gives me all the information I need, so I havenât tried the App.CONsThe valves in the Sonata are bigger and more of a hassle to wash, particularly at work. I solved this problem by bringing a bowl to work that I use as a mini sink to soak and rinse the parts. When I travel I use a ziplock bag to soak and rinse the parts. The sonata was not as quiet as I expected, but the HVAC at work was loud enough to make it inaudible to others. The Sonata is big and not light. I leave it at work and it is a luxurious treat compared to the Swing, but itâs probably not ideal for someone who plans to be on the go with a pump all the time. It comes with an insulated bag and fitted ice pack for milk that I use every day. This is a dream machine for the right person.
Hospital grade comparable
Iâve been exclusively pumping since my daughter was born due to latch issues and started off by renting a hospital grade pump. The monthly fees were outrageous so I decided to invest and purchase my own. I did so much research and was stuck between this pump and the freestyle flex and am so glad I went with this pump. Itâs so comparable to the medela symphony and super chic. I like how I donât need to be tied to a wall to use it either – once itâs charged I can walk around my house with it.The buttons to use the pump are straight forward and easy to use. Easily my best purchase of 2020 for my daughter. It empties my very well and Iâm more than satisfied.
