My son loves them so much, you would be amazed how many things you can create with square blocks. We had to get another one great magnetic strength as well.
First off, these blocks work even with younger ages as the blocks are large enough to not put in one’s mouth (and even if they could, they wouldn’t be able to swallow). They work rather nicely, with just about the right amount of magnetic force that it is easy to put together and take apart. The one complaint I have is the clacking sound. Each of the six faces of the cubes has a small magnet in it that will rotate to make the correct orientation; that part works well. The issue is that as the magnets rotate around, they (and the cubes) will smack together, which creates a clacking sound. It is not much of annoyance, but it is noticeable and keeps these from being a quiet toy to play with.
As an engineer, I find the design interesting: the magnets in each face of each cube are set up so they can rotate freely, so that when two faces are adjacent, one of the magnets can flip around to the correct orientation so that they attract each other instead of repel: clever! The transparent plastic the cubes are made out of let you see this. Young children probably aren’t going to think about this (or how magnetism works at all, for that matter) but maybe they’ll remember it in the back of their minds.I’m always concerned about toys with small, strong magnets — is there any possibility that a child might swallow two or more of them, which can cause serious intestinal problems? With this toy, it looks like it would take a lot of work to crack open the cubes and extract the magnets. I haven’t actually tried to do it, but they seem sturdy. Anything that could destroy one of the cubes would probably be pretty dangerous by itself, without worrying about the magnets.The magnets are strong enough to support several blocks, but not a line of more than about thee or four. This is OK — it gives people something to think about when they’re building something.
Colorful and small enough to fit in my toddler’s hands. Comes with a satchel to store them in. Easy to pull apart for a toddler but strong enough for him to build a tower easily without them falling down.
These magnetic blocks are one of the best toys I have gotten for my kids. They play with them more then most every other toy. My kids are 2, 6, 7, 9, and 11. They all enjoy using these and get very creative building together. I love the provided storage bag. My younger kids liked looking at the booklet that shows different ideas of things you can build with these blocks. They are very good quality and durable blocks. The neon transparent colors are very cool! This set is a great value and would be an excellent gift idea!
