To use: The oil can be applied directly to the skin as a body oil or massage oil. It can also be dabbed onto hair to serve as a leave-in conditioner or used as an ingredient in other recipes.
INGREDIENTS 1/2 vanilla bean 8 ounces (240 ml) apricot kernel oil 2 tablespoons (4 g) dried lavender buds 2 tablespoons (4 g) dried chamomile 1/4 cup (4 g) dried calendula
Herbal Body Oil
Yield: 8 ounces (240 ml)
In our house we call this Magic Oil. We use it for bedtime massage, to soothe dry or irritated skin from head to toe, and even as a hair conditioner when our tresses are feeling too crispy.
This versatile oil also serves as a base ingredient for skin care recipes like balms, body butters, and diaper ointments. Infused with a blend of soothing herbs and sweet smelling vanilla bean, this moisturizing oil really can feel magical as it makes rashes, dry skin, and even frowns disappear.
DIRECTIONS
1. Using a small paring knife, split the vanilla bean open by slicing it down the middle. 2. Combine the vanilla bean, apricot kernel oil, lavender, chamomile, and calendula in a double boiler over medium heat for 60 minutes. 3. Remove the mixture from the heat and let cool for 30 minutes. 4. Strain the oil through fine mesh, cheesecloth, or a nut milk bag (used to strain solids out of homemade nut milk). Discard solids. 5. Store the infused oil in a bottle or jar at room temperature for up to 6 months.

Fantastic DIY’s, stories and info for new and expecting moms
I purchased this book about a month or so before I was due and furiously started DIYing. I only wish I had purchased it sooner! My concern was that the DIY’s wouldn’t be accessible or require too many expensive ingredients. I did purchase a lot of things, and there were a few I wasn’t able to do because of the number of ingredients required, but there were lots of easy DIY’s I was able to complete before and after baby. Pictured are the cloth wipes I made. I could have made them cheaper if I had shopped around for fabric, but even so, I love them! My baby’s diaper rash really improved once I started using them too. I love knowing I’m using hand made items and products with my baby. I use these wipes, the body oil, the body butter and the apple cider vinegar rinse from the book. I’m planning on doing a few more of the sewing projects in the future.Besides DIY’s, the author shares her knowledge as well, and I found it very helpful. I have always been dubious about using essential oils on babies, and the author doesn’t recommend them, preferring infusions of chamomile and other flowers. I feel like our values in regards to what touches baby are aligned. She also shares her story. Of loss and love and life with her littles. I was very moved by her writing, which I did not expect in this little DIY book.Overall, a fantastic buy and a great gift for a new or expecting mama.
Perfect!

Des recettes très interessantes cependant, certaines reste assez compliqué. Vraiment dommage de ne pas trouver de version Fr. Mais c’est très interessant en tout cas.Very interesting recipes, however, some remain quite complicated. Really a shame not to find a version Fr. But it is very interesting in any case.
I’m actually the photographer for this book so full disclosure there, but I wanted to say how wonderful some of these projects are and tell you first hand that the the recipes are yummy too! If you make one thing for a new mom (or just yourself) make the Mama Bars! They are hands down my favorite cookie bar ever! I dream about those bars….so delicious!
