Durabile toy for boys to play outside!

I just briefly tested this out as it is a Christmas present for my grandson. So far, I am optimistic. The main body seems to be a lower grade plastic than the rest of it – actually, anything that is red plastic on this seems to be a lower grade plastic. The battery pack (and battery holder, actually) is also seemingly lesser quality than the rest. Other than that, this is pretty well made. I like the fact that the trimmer head is made out of ear plug material (in fact they look like very elongated ear plugs) and are harmless if your child puts their hand against it when its operating. It has a light, and the noise it makes would not (I don’t think, anyway) be irritating to anyone, which was a big concern of mine because my grandson hates the noises most toys make that are operational noises and generally won’t turn them on. Even he would not mind this, so if you are concerned for any noise sensitive child you know that may want something like this, this one is a win for sure. The pipe that holds the trimmer head can extend and the battery pack (which again actually holds 4 AA batteries that you provide) pops in and out of it like the real thing (with a bit of difficulty. It won’t just fall out. It’s actually kind of tricky). In the beginning I said I was optimistic. There were a few reviews that said theirs only worked for 5 minutes tops. I am hoping that that is a rare thing and that the majority of these are good. For the most part this is well thought out. Let’s just hope it’s well executed and it works for a good long time. There are a lot of littles out there who seem to love lawn equipment and would love something like this. I will update if there are any problems. For now, this is cautiously recommended.

This toy is pretty darn cool. I like how the end actually spins, pretty fast too, and yet it is a softish rubber type material so if it hits a finger or an object it won’t hurt or damage it. It does spin fast enough to knock around a balled up piece of paper though, and my son had a blast acting like he was cutting weeds with it all throughout the house. I’ll be excited to have him help me with yard work when we get into spring and summer.The engineering choice to put standard batteries in a removeable battery pack is brilliant. Whoever did that is really delivering on the toy realism front and is a fantastic touch. I will note that the listing mentioned realistic sounds which led me to believe that there was some type of sound effect or speaker in this thing. Be assured, there is not, and the sound is simply that of the propeller head spinning around. This to me was a good thing, as my son has enough sound effect producing toys already and definitely doesn’t need another one.The handle angle is adjustable forward and backward and the length of the trimmer on the pole is adjustable to better suit a taller child. My son loves the light.This gets a big thumbs up from me (and my 3.5 year old son) and has been working with occasional use over the past month and a half indoors. I’d recommend this product.
