Worth it
This nightlight is so perfect for my toddler. The best thing is the 3 settings. One for white light, one for colored lights and my favorite the setting where you put it on a surface and it changes to that surface color. It’s super fun and cute. The battery lasts all night long and if you turn it off right in the morning probably could last for a night and a naptime potentially longer. We just charge it to make sure it doesn’t die through the night.I would recommend this product if your kids need a night light. So worth it.
Not perfect, but plenty capable and versatile as a “night light” for your child(ren)!
I have to say, this was a very cool product to review, not because it’s fancy or expensive, but simply because it’s such a cool concept for kids, especially for the younger demographic that this is targeting (0+ as stated on the box). As someone who grew up without a night light of any sort, this is something I totally could’ve used, and would’ve loved as a kid. It gives a gentle glow (even at its brightest setting), and has “RGB” capabilities that will occupy a lot of the child’s curiosity. The bear itself looks hospitable and amiable, meaning it’s easy to approach (even for an infant), and can be used by both boys and girls. The 3 included modes are easy to understand – even for children – and it satisfies just about every ambiance someone could be wanting. 1st mode keeps the bear glowing a neutral “white” light with 2 adjustable brightness levels. The 2nd mode changes colour at 10 second intervals, and is sort of reminiscent of the RGB gaming PCs kids enjoy these days. It’s a slow, relaxing transition though, so it’s nothing that’ll make it too jarring, even for a toddler. Lastly, the 3rd mode matches the colour of an object that it’s standing on. What’s cool is Angelcare included 2 cards with sample colours for you to test out the mode. While it says Lumicolor is capable of detecting many colours outside of the included cards, what it can actually reflect in its glow seems to be fairly limited. Also, I tried having it detect my t-shirt as a colour of choice, but it didn’t work because it seemed the laser penetrated the shirt and detected nothing. Nonetheless, this will cater to the colour of preference very well, and satisfy what the child may want.Another thing that really impressed me was its battery life. Leaving it on for the whole night (about 8 hours), this lasted at least a solid 3 days with it dying some time during the 4th night. This exceeded the listed battery life expectations, and more importantly, it meant I didn’t have to charge it every day and forgetting to charge it for a day or two was not an issue. There is a really short Micro-USB charger included, although I would’ve liked to have seen a USB-C port for charging since that’s about the new norm today.I do want to point out that in a lot of the marketing material, it makes it look like the bear emits incredibly bright light – enough to read a book in a pitch-black room or make your face glow, but in my experience, it was not even close to being that bright. Don’t get me wrong – I think the gentle glow fits the audience well, but if you were hoping for some kind of a flashlight alternative for kids to use during the night to go to the bathroom or something, this isn’t it.Lastly, I appreciate the functionality that comes with the bear being squishy. It’s got nothing going for its head or torso meaning it can be “flattened” but I wouldn’t strictly recommend that for the purposes of entertainment. I’m not trying to insult the bear – I just meant squishing it won’t do any harm to the electronics within the bear, which is mostly all at the bottom. It keeps the center of gravity low, so it won’t tip over easily with a slight knock.
Great night light that matches the color it is sitting on.
I was looking for a night light that my nieces and nephews could use when they visited. I am always looking for something a little different and came across this very intriguing night light that claims to change color according to what surface it is on. I just had to get this. The night light arrived very well packaged in a giftable box. It came packaged with the bear night light, a USB-A to micro USB charging cable, a 2 sided card with colored squares on it, and a very informative user manual. On the side of the night light is a toggle switch with 3 positions for 3 different modes. There is also a power button next to the toggle switch. After selecting each mode you hit the power button to start.Mode 1 turns the night light to white. You can select the brightness by tapping the power button.Mode 2 cycles through multiple colors at 10-second intervals. If you like a color in this mode you just tap the power button and it will hold that color.Mode 3, and the reason I chose this night light is the color matching mode. If you select this mode then whatever color the bear night light is on it will match that color. I found this very fascinating and tried this on the color cards that are included as well as every other surface within reach. It is really a very nice feature and even I enjoyed playing with it.On the bottom of the bear is another switch that allows you to turn on the timer. This works in modes 1 and 2 and will shut off the night light after 45 minutes. The small white button on the bottom of the bear is the button that signals the night light to match the color it is sitting on. This must make contact with the surface for it to match the color. There is a micro-USB charging port for charging the bear night light. I would have preferred to see USB-C for charging since this seems to be the standard now but it’s certainly not a big issue.I am very impressed with this color-matching bear night light and the color matching adds a feature that makes this not only a night light but also a fun toy.I do recommend this and the price for something this unique is very fair.
Me and my toddler both like the favt it recognizes the color it is standing on and moving it around a bit has become our bedtime routine. We even went a step further and got some different colored papers to make it more viable.
This is actually my second of these and I the idea of this product, itâs been a fun addition to my kids bedroom. However, for a second time the charging port has failed and pushes back into the light, rendering it inoperable and useless. Of course my kids are upset that this âburns outâ and needs to be replaced, but moreover this happens within 2-3 months, both times right after the return window closes. Do not buy this product unless you want to replace it every 3 months.
The bear is firm but not rock-hard, so itâs akin to a fully-inflated volleyball almost. The plastic outside is smooth and easy to clean, but the ears are definitely one of the hardest parts on it, so be careful around them since it seems like theyâre essentially solid plastic. The charging wire is a bit short (~5-6in long), but the light that indicates whether itâs fully charged or not is useful (the bear lights up red when charging and turns green when fully charged). It produces a nice soft light thatâs not terribly bright and has a built-in 45 min timer, which is nice if you wanted to switch that option on. The different colours and settings are a nice touch too because they add variety and fit whatever your preference is too.Itâs a bit unusual the colour sensor in the bottom is uncovered but recessed within the base, which could lead to potential damages if you arenât careful or get stuff in it, but it works well. As long as you ensure the small button next to it is pushed while itâs in âcolour detectâ mode, itâll do its best to match the colour, which is really cool. It even comes with a card to test that feature.Overall, the bear is really nice, easy to clean, and adorable, but you definitely have to be careful around some areas like the sensor on the underside and ears. It shouldnât be a huge issue, but in the end itâs all down to personal preference.
The lighting on this is very dim, this could be designed on purpose but to me it just didnât look right. It looks exactly as pictured, the sizing was very surprising to me, this is just a little bigger than the animals from fisher prices little people farm. My toddler stands them right next to each other for the comparison and you can tell this is very small, great for night light in nursery rooms. Itâs also squishy, so if there are any accidents, your baby/ toddler would not get hurt. Overall, this product is solid, just the lights were a little dimmer than expected for me. This is a great piece for my baby girls nursery room.
Build QualityThe quality is good. The plastic is a good quality and there are no defects in printing molding etc. The one thing that I found odd is that there is no clear cover on the color sensor on the bottom. The sensor is exposed but recessed (picture 3)ON/off / TimerThe on off button isn’t the easist to use, Its on the bottom and needs a long press to shut off. Oddly there is a timer switch on the bottom which sets the night light to turn off automatically after 45 minutes. Not AdjustableThe timer and light intensity can not be adjusted. (only light color)UseThe bear is soft and gentle and can be held by a baby without worry. I’m not sure what materials this is made out of so I would monitor use if your baby is teething as he will probably try to bite the ears. Our baby loves lights and changing lights at that. He is really interested in this toy and it keeps his attention.Micro USB Charging cableThis uses the older micro usb which I don’t usually have handy as it is an older cable type. One cable is included but not the charger itself.Final thoughts. This is great as a toy, but falls short as a nightlight with only a 45M timer, no brightness control and a tiny hard to find at night long press off button.
