And with an updated look, this classic children’s storybook about a youngster loooking for a perfect pet is sure to delight a new generation of readers!

From the Publisher

Rod Campbell’s classic lift-the-flap book Dear Zoo has been a firm favorite with toddlers and parents alike ever since it was first published in 1982.

Young readers love lifting the flaps to discover the animals the zoo has sent—a monkey, a lion, and even an elephant! But will they ever find the perfect pet?

With bright, bold artwork, a catchy refrain, and a whole host of favorite animals, Dear Zoo is a must for every child’s bookshelf.

Reviews

  1. Perfect book for toddlers
My 18 month old loves this book! So simple, and a quick read. She loves lifting the flaps and naming the animals.

  2. Interactive and fun
While I never thought I would like a kids book as much as my son, I actually get excited to read this book with him. In fact, when we lost “Dear Zoo” I promptly had to replace it because I missed the book so. Don’t judge, I can be a bit of nerd. There are a two main reasons why I like reading this book with him so much. First, the flap book style has engaged him since he was around 6 months old and still does at 14 months. In particular, each of the flaps opens in a different way. He had to work hard at first to wrap his mind around some of them but I think this was good practice for his motor skills. And even though he has the book memorized at this point he is still very eager to open the flaps.Second, I like the simple style. “Dear Zoo” isn’t overly wordy but we fill the story with lots of noises and gestures. My boy loves making the sounds on his own and there are lots of concepts to be learned. All in all, I think “Dear Zoo” is one worth owning because the interactive style and simply story have managed to hold his attention while other books have fallen to the wayside. And this kid loves his books so he’s a bit of a critic.

  3. Amazing Book
Arguably one of my 1 year old’s favourite books and one of the very few books she’s go grab herself off the shelf and sit down and read. The book itself is short and sweet and provides lots of chances to interact with your child. I usually can not get away with one reading once we start. The ‘Life-The-Flap’ is both a positive and a negative. My daughter loves opening the flaps and has got real good at recognizing the animals and the sounds they make. She’s really engaged! The negative is that when you buy a board book, you buy it with the understanding that a young child isn’t always the most gentle with their things. The tabs are rather flimsy compared to the book and will rip out very easy if a child isn’t careful.5* for the story and the way it engages a young child, but just watch out for those flaps!

  4. Books
They are for a 2 year olds birthday. Mother recommended them

  5. My baby love this book
I had an old book like this but we lost it. My baby love the book so i ordered one. He loves it just as much as the old one that we lost.

  6. Good child’s book
Although the book is still in good shape it did have a cut on the upper front of the book. Don’t know if this was there prior to mailing but if it was it should never have been shipped out in the first place. Giving it to a child as a gift you want it to be in great shape. Will hold on to it for when he visits.

  7. My childhood favorite
This is my go to baby shower gift for friends. This was the book we all fought over in elementary school, so nostalgic.

  8. Cute repetition book
My child was working on their final “K” sound and the repetition in this book was great! It was also used by our speech pathologist.

  9. Perfect for my 18 month grandson who loves animals especially dogs! Well made and sweet story.

  10. Excelente para niños pequeños y que son muy curiosos. Importante cuidar bien, las pestañas. No son frágiles, pero siempre hay que tener cuidado.

  11. Beautiful book, and fun for toddlers

  12. Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is an absolute treasure in our family, holding a special place on every bookshelf. I first bought this book for my son, and it quickly became a favorite that we enjoyed together for many, many years. Its charming simplicity, interactive flaps, and the fun of discovering which animal is hiding behind each one never seems to lose its appeal, no matter how many times we’ve read it.I have also purchased countless copies of Dear Zoo for friends over the years, and it has been universally loved and well-received. The story’s timelessness and gentle humor make it the perfect gift for young children, and it’s a joy to see it spark the same excitement in other families that it has in ours. Whether you’re introducing it to a new generation or revisiting it for nostalgia, *Dear Zoo* is a book that will always bring smiles and memories.

  13. Amamos o livro! Eu e a Helena (1 ano e 1 mês). Abas resistentes.
