When it comes to introducing solid food to babies at approximately six months, providing the best means using fresh, organic ingredients and paying attention to how food is prepared. For the very best, it means preparing those foods at home and introducing children to a variety of foods, nutrients and unique flavors.

Easy Gourmet Baby Food features 150 recipes that introduce very simple ways for parents to prepare meals for their infants and toddlers. Here’s a small sampling:

Green beans with fresh basil leaves; orange lentil and root vegetables; roasted cauliflower and white bean puréeSeared salmon, cauliflower and russet potato; grilled chicken breast with yogurt; three-cheese vegetable lasagnaParmesan polenta cakes; pork tenderloin with prunes and bliss potatoes; corn and fennel soup.

Recipes are conveniently divided into age groups: 6-9 months, 9-12 months, and 12-24 months. Each recipe contains a complete nutritional analysis. Many transition seamlessly to older family members, so meals can be shared by everyone. Also included are instructions on how to create multiple-meal purées to be frozen and used later, plus extensive tips on meal preparation, nutrition and feeding.

  1. Five Stars
    Great!!

  2. This is a fantastic book
I think this is a fantastic book and it’s a great resource to have in your kitchen. I knew once our daughter was born that I was going to be making her organic food. But after a while it’s easy to start running out of food combination ideas to feed a baby. This book makes it super easy to make delicious and healthy meals while keeping them interesting. They’re simple to follow and quick to make. I really like the tips that are included that tell you how to adapt the baby food you’ve prepared into an ‘adult version’. Even though I love to cook it’s still great to get different ideas’.especially when it means you don’t have to make 2 separate meals!I just made the roasted cherry tomato and basil puree and it was delicious. My husband and I enjoyed it along with our 9 month old daughter. The recipes are also broken down into age specific chapters. So they progressively get more interesting and give you more ideas as to what you can introduce to your baby at different times. We’re having a lot of fun with it and I’ve decided to cook each recipe for my daughter at least once…. why not try something new!Sure you can look on the internet, but it’s nice to have something so complete right in front of you. I’d recommend this book to anyone especially if you like to try new things. And the best part is that there are so many yummy recipes that I’d make for myself! The author has done a great job in simplifying gourmet cooking for your little one.

  3. Healthy homemade variations
Lots of interesting and unique meal ideas. easy to read and follow. Like indication note on what freezes well and nutrion facts.

  4. Disappointed
I bought this book looking for yummy recipes that my picky eater would like. I tried three recipes and they all had one problem in common… very very intense flavor that a baby would not tolerate. The parsnip and turnip smash was so bad my tongue was actually numb for a minute after tasting it. The one good thing is the nutrition information & tips added to the receipes.. I found those very informative and made me more aware of the importance buying organic. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this book for its recipes. I found better ones online for free!

  5. This book is handy, even for adults!1) Almost every child’s recipe has a way to adapt it to make it more interesting for adults. The pureed broccoli mixed with parmesan cheese over pasta is great.2) Every recipe has an interesting nutrition section as well as a complete breakdown of all the nutritional facts. I never thought I’d find myself reading about vitamin B12, folic acid, fiber, different layer of grain, etc.3) Chef Jordan has a preparation tip for every recipe. Try roasting yams with the skin to develop the sugars, etc.4) All the recipes are manageable. Meaning they don’t require 30 different ingredients and 30 steps. They make use of standard basics you’d have in your pantry as well as encouraging you to run to the store to buy the one or two things you don’t have.I go back and back to this cookbook for our son as well as our own meals!

  6. I stumbled on this book in the library and am now purchasing it to have at home. I used canned food when my son was first starting to eat, but found the commercial options for older baby foods (9 months and beyond) less appealing and was looking for some easy, yet creative things to try at home. I never tried any of the puree recipes, but loved the older baby and toddler recipes. They were easy to follow, creative, but not too eccentric. I liked the personal tone of the book and that this was written by a chef with an emphasis on taste/flavor and less dogmatic on organic, nutrition, etc. I work full-time and needed recipes that were either quick and easy and most recipes here fit that bill. I also found myself making some of the recipes to eat myself, especially the sweet potato fries and the roasted cauliflower. It was a great way to get my son to try different things in that age between 9 months and 15 months before they start getting picky and resistant to new stuff.

  7. This is a fabulous book. I am a decent cook but new to baby food. This book is great on specifics about buying food and preparing it for baby and also has a section on each recipe for mom and dad to eat. Also, gives tips to save money and nutrition tips. A fabulous read and cookbook. If you want a healthy eater and want to give baby something other than mashed bananas this is a great book to get!!! Absolutely a must!

  8. I think some dishes are super easy when baby eats just one or two ingredients at a time. But as they start eating more things some things are not really easy to prepare. I also found that I could cook many things with much less water than what is recommended, which is nice because I can use the water remaining to thin up the purees and the baby gets most of the vitamins that would be lost in the extra (unnecessary) water. That’s just how it worked for me though. Maybe some other babies like their purees thinner so their parents use more water to prepare them… Each family is different. We have an hectic life, maybe for some people the recipes are “easier”…But I will keep the book, when I feel like taking a challenge to prepare something more sophisticated I might use it!

  9. I really like the how they make it so simple to make your own baby food. The recipes are easy but more creative than I would have thought of – for example roasting bananas and sweet potatoes before you purée them, or using basil and mint with in fruit / veg purée combos. I’m not a creative cook, my husband does most of the cooking in our home, but even I enjoy making these recipes for baby.
