So far, so good
Update After 2 Years:2 years after purchasing this, it is still working fine for the most part. Although I always moisten the contact points before a ride, there are still occasions when I get an obviously faulty reading on my Garmin head unit for a period of time, but it usually corrects after a while. Battery life has been good and the strap remains comfortable. Since it has now lasted significantly longer than my previous Garmin HRM, I”m still very happy with the purchase.Original ReviewI bought this to replace a Garmin Dual HRM that had been causing signal dropouts intermittently when out on longer rides; nothing seemed to work to fix the problem. The POWR LABS unit is as comfortable as the Garmin. One big plus for this HRM is that you don’t need a special screwdriver to take out tiny screws in order to replace the battery. Pairing with the head unit and my Garmin watch was easy. I have used it on a couple of rides and I had no signal failures, so it’s working fine – so far. HR readings were about what I expected so it seems to be accurate. It will remain to be seen how reliable it is, and what the battery life is, in the long run, but if it lasts it is excellent value for the money, about half the cost of the Garmin HRM.
Chose this over Garmin. Absolute love the consistency.
Initially I wanted to buy the Garmin version given I have the Garmin Edge and most of my accessories are Garmin. Searching on Amazon came upon this product with great reviews and some positive thoughts on YouTube videos as well. Overall impression, itâs high quality and comfortable that I sometimes forget to take it off. The connectivity with my Garmin Edge could not be simpler and itâs flawless.I canât really say anything about accuracy because I donât have an instrument to measure but based on my historical heart rates detected by my Apple Watch, itâs consistent with that at least. But whatâs also important is that from ride to ride, itâs very consistent and I think thatâs what very important as well.Overall solid product and no regret buying this over Garmin.
Defective…sent back
This was purchased to provide HR values with my Echelon bike.Despite multiple (>10) attempts, wetting the contacts etc. It worked briefly once and then with inaccurate HR values. Yes, I have a hairy chest but the lack of any indication of its working status and poor connectivity made it a true failure. I sent it back & received a refund.I suspect that the unit I received was defective and so canât comment on its true utility but I can say that the ability to return it for a refund is quite welcome.
Great value. Works with Suunto Baro 9
Worked great for 3 months than stopped working. I was using 2-3x a week for running, biking and XC skiing. Before it stopped working, it was great and paired to my Suunto Baro 9 seamlessly. After it stopped working, I did the following to troubleshoot: 1) tried changing battery – nothing, 2) Swapped HRM straps – nothing, 3) Confirmed a voltage on unit and strap with multimeter, 4) forgot the HRM on Bluetooth watch but regardless the Bluetooth was not detected by any device, i.e. phone. Fortunately, when I wrote a negative review on Amazon, the company immediately reached out offering a new unit under warranty. The communication was prompt and the replacement HRM is apparently being sent to arrive this week. My experience with Powerlabs was positive. I gave 4/5 because Iâm still sceptical on the HRM long durability. I remain hopeful the replacement unit works longer because the original was great before it broke. Fingers crossed.
Accurate and Reliable: The Best Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor
I recently started using the POWR LABS Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor Chest, and it has been a fantastic addition to my fitness routine. The strap is comfortable and adjustable, ensuring a secure fit during workouts. The heart rate monitor pairs seamlessly with my fitness apps and devices, providing accurate and real-time data. The battery life is impressive, and I love the convenience of the Bluetooth connectivity, which allows me to track my performance without any hassle. This heart rate monitor has helped me optimize my workouts and achieve better results. Highly recommend it to anyone serious about their fitness goals!
Very impressive
I bought this unit because my Polar H10 (“the gold standard”) was dropping out during workouts and frankly I wasn’t feeling like spending a lot of money when clearly the best of the best wasn’t impressing. (I did all the things Polar suggested and just assumed the system was failing because of how much I was moving in different ways during a CrossFit class)Back to this unit, for $50 I figured why not. So far it has out performed the H10 and is probably what I’m going to stick with. Hasn’t yet dropped out during a class. Accurate HR compared to the H10 (based on my experience with HR monitors, so not science based proof tbh).Comfort is about 95% of the H10: It sticks out slightly more, I prefer the H10’s clip more than this one’s hook style on the strap but absolutely solid for the price and more than worth it.I’ve already recommended it to two friends. Absolutely worth it
exactly as advertised
I have been using this product for about 4 months now. it was easy to sync with a fitness app, I used Strava. While some days it takes a bit to connect, it always connects. They suggest wetting the back of the strap which I don’t always do and i think the hair on my chest causes some connections issues. But I found it comfortable and accurate. When I have been on a treadmill or a stationary bike with a built in HR monitor this one is bang on, the same as the treadmill and the bike. A great way to see how elevation and grades impact HR when walking. I am not cycling yet, so it will be interesting to see how it works in that application.
Saw in another review that they had success after installing Myworkouts app. Just received the HRM today, installed Myworkouts and now have it functioning. Wasn’t sure my cheap ($30) LG Rebel 3 L18VL Android phone supported Bluetooth LE, which seems to be required, according to Myworkouts. A Google search revealed I could install a little free utility that would find out. So, I downloaded and installed and ran BLE Checker, which said it did. Finally found the Setting to add a Bluetooth LE device in Myworkouts and I was set, after the basic configuration, which was simple and intuitive. I’m running a trial workout right now, lying in bed with my laptop. Assuming this HRM is accurate, it’s all I could ask for, and the myworkouts app seems great. Gonna give this a trial run on my road bike tomorrow! This uses cheap replaceable CR2032 3 volt batteries, which I always have on hand. This thing is much smaller than I anticipated, which is good. It’s comfortable, I’ve been wearing it about 2 hours.I turned off battery optimizations for the Myworkouts app in android settings, at the suggestion of the app, so that things don’t get strange or fail altogether if the phone’s screen turns off or battery levels get below any threshold. All my other apps will optimize battery drainage but I don’t want that to happen for this. I want it to work perfectly no matter what.Edit next day: First day using while actually exercising. Road bike to and from gym, 5 miles each way, also kept Myworkouts app running in the gym. Worked great. Until I receive a bracket I ordered from China (!), I’m using a small bungee to hold my phone to handlebars, which works acceptably. Had no trouble reading my HR with this setup during my bike rides. I’m loving it! Had great rides and I was very pleased to know the answer to the question that I’d had in my head for months, “I wonder what my heart rate is right now” while riding to/from my gym.Edit a few months later: The battery died already. I couldn’t find a contact for Powr Labs and so I posted at their Facebook page, trying to avail myself of their 2 year battery replacement offer. That was several weeks ago and as far as I know, they did not respond. Anyway, I’d bought 15 CR2032 batteries a while ago, so I’m good.Edit2 a couple years later: Still using MyWorkOuts Android app. I’m finding that the CR2032 battery lasts perhaps a year in my almost daily 1 hour plus workouts. When I take off the strap I unfasten one of the two snap connectors and set the strap aside, refasten that snap connector when putting the strap on for the next workout. I figure that ensures that the electronics of the HR monitor are getting nothing like a signal and that this will make the battery last longer. Just before putting the strap on when starting a workout I get a drop of water on my index finger and wipe it on the back of the strap where it will pick up my heart beat. I saw this recommended and I think it helps ensure that the sensor gets a solid continuous signal. Maybe 2-3 times out of my now nearly 1000 uses have I found that the signal was lost when I checked out my app post-workout. That’s pretty high reliability. When that happens it could signal need for a new battery, or it could be inadequate contact at your breast bone. A bit of moisture there helps ensure that the monitor picks up your heart beat.
