I’m reviewing the Reinforced 100 Inch Extra Long Baby/Pet Gate, Grey color….this gate is easy to install, it’s retractable so the area looks cleaner when not in use. I don’t need to use it often, it’s there when I need to babysit my daughter’s dog, the dog is well behaved but I wanted to cordon off a certain area, fitted my purpose, just don’t leave a big gap at the bottom near the floor so it won’t try to go under it.
We are using teh gate for our dog since he keeps lurking in the kitchen. It fits perfectly across our wide living room opening, which we struggled to secure with standard gates. The build feels sturdy, and the installation was surprisingly easy, even for a wider setup. Wish we don’t have to drill our wall & door, but it’s sturdy. Highly recommend it for anyone needing extra width.
This gate stretches out great, but the retraction mechanism is pretty strong. When opening it up, make sure you have a good grip or it could pull out of your hands. The lock holds it well to prevent accidental opening, but it is just a slider lock that doesn’t take a lot of effort to release. A toddler able to reach the top of the post would be able to slide the latch to the unlocked position. This is our second gate, and the original one has lasted several years so far. There was a case where one of the hooks broke (our fault), but you can get replacement parts for it here. That makes this a great value so you don’t have to replace the entire gate if something minor happens to it.
This is a really cool dog/baby gate. The locking mechanism works great and it covers a gigantic opening. It has all the hardware needed to mount it securely and guide it along the opening. The only downside is that itâs soft, not hard, and itâs not super tall. This might work for a toddler or a small dog, but a more aggressive entity will probably just force their way over it. Not to say it isnât sturdy, itâs about as sturdy as a flexible mesh gate can be, but itâs just the nature of the thing.
This gate is nice an tall, has a good retracting mechanism, and locks–which is really a nice touch. However, the screws that come with it are very weak (have your own) and be prepared to need both hands to open and close this gate–which proves extremely difficult when you are actually using the gate to keep out hyper kiddos or pets. It’s good enough to keep around but I would not choose again if I knew about needing both hands to open and close.
