Reviews

  1. ✅Fantastic choice – versatile, portable, and feature-packed monitor for both home and travel.
As a parent who loves to travel, finding a baby monitor that is both portable and packed with useful features felt like a dream come true. Indeed, the CHILLAX Giraffe Pro Max Baby Monito is a truly innovative and reliable option for parents on the go. After testing this product thoroughly, I can confidently say it’s worth the $250 price tag, despite being on the higher end of the market.✅Super Portable Travel Baby Monitor:The first thing that impressed me was just how portable this baby monitor is. With its battery clip base stand, you can attach the camera pretty much anywhere, which is perfect for when you’re moving from hotel to hotel or even just visiting family. The 8-hour battery life ensures that you can keep an eye on your baby even if there’s no power source readily available, and the gooseneck design makes it easy to adjust the camera to any angle, providing full flexibility.I tested this by setting up the camera in various locations: on a crib, on a nightstand, or even attached to the back of a chair. In each case, I was able to get the perfect viewing angle, thanks to the flexible gooseneck. It was simple to clip on and move around—a huge plus for parents who need something adaptable.✅Wi-Fi Off for Privacy:One of my biggest concerns with baby monitors is privacy, especially when traveling. I love that this monitor has a physical Wi-Fi On/Off switch. I tested this feature, and when Wi-Fi was turned off, the ChillaxCare app access was temporarily disabled, but the video feed on the parent unit stayed uninterrupted. This gave me peace of mind knowing that no one else could access the camera remotely when I didn’t want them to. In today’s digital age, this is a crucial feature for privacy-conscious parents like myself.✅Crystal Clear Viewing:The video quality was another area that exceeded my expectations. The 5-inch Parent Unit offers a sharp 720p display, while the camera itself streams in 1080p Full HD. Whether I was in the same room or streaming remotely through the app, the picture was crisp and clear. I tested the camera both during the day and at night, and the best-in-class night vision worked flawlessly. No grainy images or lag, just a smooth, reliable video feed. The fact that the LED dimming feature prevents any distracting blinking lights was a thoughtful touch, ensuring my baby could sleep peacefully. Well done!✅ Smart Features for Every Need:The temperature sensor, motion and sound detection, and feeding reminders were features that I initially thought were overkill. But once I tested them, I realized how handy they are. The temperature sensor helped me ensure my baby’s room was comfortable during the night, and the feeding reminders were great during long travel days when keeping track of schedules can be tricky. These are features I didn’t know I needed until I had them. Plus, I could record my own media, or play the existing “Bedtime fro sweet dreams” song.I also tested the 2-way talk feature, which came in handy when I needed to soothe my baby from the other room. I just keep the monitor on my office desk and be in control every second! The audio was clear, and the long transmission range (up to 1,000 feet) meant that I could still communicate effectively even when far from the monitor. This was especially useful in larger hotels or while staying in spacious homes.❎ Room for Improvement:While I loved most of the features, I did find one area that could be improved. The app only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which can be slower and more crowded than the newer 5 GHz standard. When I was in busy areas with many devices connected to the same network, the app experienced some slight lag. Adding 5 GHz support in the future would certainly elevate the overall experience, especially for parents who live in urban areas or travel frequently. All in all, the CHILLAX Giraffe Pro Max Baby Monitor is a fantastic choice for parents who need a versatile, portable, and feature-packed monitor for both home and travel. Its flexibility, privacy features, crystal-clear image quality, and smart functions make it well worth the investment. While the app could benefit from 5 GHz support, the device as a whole delivered an excellent experience that made traveling with a baby much less stressful. Highly recommend! Great device – my rating is 4.5 stars

  2. Average baby monitor, below avg audio/video, NO pan/tilt, bit of latency, built-in bat*, steep price
This is an average (or somewhat decent, depending upon what your needs are) baby monitor system (or whatever else you wanna monitor) that’s reasonably well made and works right outta box without any issues whatsoever; however, there is certain level of delay/latency for the video and the audio and it does seem choppy at best. With that being said, it does work just fine as a monitoring tool but if you want HD (even at 720p) video of the baby, well, this is NOT gonna cut it. It supports a max of 4 cameras (sold separately) should you need it.≡ Physical buildThe physical build quality is reasonably decent without any visible defects or any other quality related issues which I occasionally find amongst products such as this. The camera is powered by the provided clamp that has a built-in battery (or a battery with a built-in clamp) and it can be changed via USB-C; however, the camera itself has a male USB-A connector ONLY without a USB-C port; not that it’d do much good anyway even if does have one since it’s difficult to make use of the camera without the cam as it doesn’t stand on its own and there is no way to orient it, even with a gooseneck, with the clamp base. Btw, the clamp base has a 3000 mAh battery (claimed). On the other hand, the monitor/display does have a built-in battery rated at 3000 mAh (claimed) and it can be charged via USB-C which I do appreciate although it’s not something to write home about at this point in time. Both the camera and the monitor/display (aka parent unit) can be used while they are being charged. The reception is average (even at close proximity to each other) in comparison to most others that I’ve come and reviewed (more than a dozen so far) so this may or may not work for you depending upon your individual needs with respect the video quality. It makes no claims to the maximum distance supported (between the camera and the monitor) but it uses the 2.4GHz band (proprietary Wi-Fi 4).Btw, it does come with 2x USB-A/C cables along with 2x USB wall chargers that have UL safety certification, which is great.≡ OperationsThe user interface is reasonably intuitive and it’s easy to work with all the buttons and whatnot. A number of settings can be adjusted including brightness, audio sensitivity, screen timeout, multi-camera view (supports a max of 4), temp monitoring, 2 way talk, night vision, and music play etc. All of these are typical and common features that I’ve seen on other units although relatively few have the ability to play melodies etc. However, the video quality is below average in comparison to most others although it does have a 2MP camera (or so it claims). It’s also NOT clear to me what the frame rate is (most others do provide that info) and it’s NOT very high, again, based on what I’ve seen so far because the video appears to be choppy a lot more frequently than others that I’ve come across but that could also be due to poor reception. In any event, the overall video quality isn’t what I would say as being ‘good’ at this point in time. The color reproduction is reasonably decent; not great but more than adequate (not that it matters as a baby cam I suppose but it’s still good to know) but the latency issues has put a damper on things.≡ NoteUnlike the vast majority of others that I’ve come across and reviewed, this particular one does NOT support pan/tilt and instead it comes with a gooseneck. While a gooseneck is certainly helpful in many cases, it’s not even comparable to cameras with panning and tilting capabilities. As such, I’d say this is the stripped down or lite version of those that do support pan/tilt.In addition, the monitor/display is only 720p so the quality on the parent unit isn’t exactly great although it’s still more than sufficient in most cases for baby monitoring.###I should also mention that although the buttons work reasonably well, they really aren’t the best and that’s just disappointing especially when comparing to most others that DO have much better design for the bottoms that are easier to work with and navigate etc.≡ Other featuresIt doesn’t have any other advanced features that most others having including PTZ (panning/tilting) but it does have digital zoom although it’s not specified what the zoom level is (but I suspect it’s just 2x/3x). However, it does have features such as screen auto-timeout, timer, and 2-way talk which absolutely help (though it might not work that well for the, well, stubborn type). In addition, it does come with a gooseneck and a clamp with built-in battery that few others have (for the camera) and it’s working well given the circumstance (not counting the fact that it doesn’t have pan/tilt that is), and that’ certainly point in its favor (i.e. with a built-in battery). Last but not least, it has a kickstand as well as an external antenna for better reception like most others but the antenna doesn’t really work that well I’m afraid.≡ ValueAll things considered, this is a somewhat decent [baby] monitor that works moderately well with an average video quality, below average display, intuitive menu, and below average reception. Some of the issues aforementioned may or may not be a concern for you depending upon your particular use case and needs; however, it does have a rather steep price of $250 and that’s at least 40-60% more dough than others with a 1080p display/parent unit AND a pan/tilt capable camera although the camera isn’t battery powered like this one is.Nonetheless, I’m not entirely certain if this is a cost effective option or even an alternative (if you are looking for battery-powered camera) given what I’ve seen thus far. Btw, the app is junk and I wouldn’t let ’em mine my precious data and possibly videos of my little one so the app isn’t even an option to me but you might feel differently about the app and the choice is of course yours. Your mileage might vary.

  3. Very good quality and image! Comes with a powerbank and works for hours, even without energy. Just the camera power cord could be a little bit longer!

  4. QUICK STATS- Model: CHILLAX Giraffe Pro Portable- Price: $180 (cheaper than hiring a night watchman)- Connectivity: WiFi or whatever magic it uses when offline- Battery: Keeps going and going (hours at least)- Video Quality: Think “decent security camera” not “Hollywood blockbuster”THE GOOD STUFF✓ Works with or without WiFi (your choice of digital sorcery)✓ No subscription fees (imagine that – a product that just works!)✓ Comes with dedicated monitor (your phone can keep scrolling TikTok)✓ Portable camera with surprising battery life✓ App that apparently moonlights as a baby management system✓ Support team that actually speaks humanTHE LESS AWESOME BITS- Occasional connectivity tantrums- Video delay (1-2 seconds, because babies aren’t that fast anyway)- Phone app sometimes needs a timeout- Video quality won’t be featured at SundanceTHE APP: AN UNEXPECTED HEROAfter extensive research checking all the boxes for a solid monitor system, this app swooped in like a surprise superhero. Beyond the expected monitor features, it’s packed with tracking capabilities that have been a game-changer for our special dietary needs. Some features we’ve discovered:- Feeding tracker (breast milk vs formula throwdown)- Diaper event documentation (for those who love spreadsheets)- Various activity tracking options- More charts than a corporate quarterly reportAnd apparently tons more we haven’t even explored yetMONITORING MODESLOCAL CONNECTIONIt uses some form of wizardry to work without WiFi – I’m not asking questions, I’m just grateful it works.PHONE APPSurprisingly faster than the dedicated monitor, which seems backwards but hey, welcome to the future.NIGHT VISION CAPABILITIESClear enough to spot a ninja baby, no additional lighting required. The infrared works so well you’d think your nursery was hosting a tiny special ops mission.REAL WORLD EXPERIENCEAfter 2.5 weeks of baby surveillance, I’m convinced this was the right choice. Sure, we’ve had some technical hiccups – had to reset it a few times and play “why won’t you connect?” with the phone app. But the support team actually knows their stuff (and probably has kids of their own based on their understanding of sleep-deprived parent brain).FINAL VERDICTDespite some quirks that make you question your tech literacy, this monitor delivers on its promises and then some. The bonus baby-tracking features make you feel like you’ve got a tiny data science department running in your nursery.Recommended for:- Parents who appreciate both online and offline options- Data nerds who secretly wanted to chart every baby moment- People who enjoy helpful bonus features they didn’t know they needed- Those who understand that sometimes technology needs a hug (reset)Not Recommended for:- Parents seeking bare-bones monitoring- People who throw their router out the window at the first sign of trouble- Anyone expecting James Cameron-level video quality

  5. This baby monitor is great! It’s got clear video and sound, and is super portable. I like that the screen is large so it’s easy to see. It’s easy to hear sounds from it as well. The camera is attached to a clip, which could clip onto the side of a crib. However, for an older baby who can stand and grab it, that doesn’t work. I just stood it up on the dresser, and it balanced decently, but the base isn’t exactly the best for that. I didn’t check out all the additional features on the monitor, but it is easy to use and understand, and has all the options that a parent might want!

  6. This travel baby monitor will make traveling feel so much easier, more convenient, and safer. It’s flexible and portable. The gooseneck design makes it easy to position the camera exactly how you want it, and the battery base stand is perfect for travel, giving you up to 8 hours of use during the day. I like that it has a Wi-Fi On/Off switch, so you can turn off Wi-Fi for extra privacy when you don’t need remote access. The 5-inch screen shows clear 720p video, and if you want even higher quality, you can stream in 1080p through the app. There are a lot of thoughtful features like sound detection, feeding reminders, and best-in-class night vision, all controlled from the app. Overall, it’s easy to use and has a decent range. 7. I was looking for a video monitor I could use occasionally in various locations in the house to keep track of cats, etc., and it had to have its own monitor–no sending house video via some remote server to a phone app. This item looked like it fit the bill, and its description made much of the camera clip base with a battery. So, I was excited when it arrived, and looked for the power button the camera. Hmm, I don’t see one. Odd. Studied the manual, but no mention of a power button or how to turn on the camera, just states to plug it in. Used one of the supplied power bricks, and that turned it on. But I wanted to be able to simply use the clip base, not have to plug it in and have a wire trailing from the base. Unfortunately, the camera does not have a power (on-off) button. When you supply power to its USB-A connector at the end of the gooseneck/stalk, it automatically turns on…and it stays on until you remove power. What this means when the base is charged and you pull the power brick from the wall, the camera stays on until the base battery has completely discharged. Unfortunately, this makes the camera quite annoying to use briefly with the base battery. I am going to have to pull the gooseneck/stalk out of the base to turn the camera off, and plug it back in to power it off. Doable, but certainly not what I would prefer to do. I honestly cannot believe the company produced a camera, that runs off a battery, that you have no way to turn off. Incredibly stupid design!Other than the lack of a camera power switch, the system works quite well. Video quality is very good. System had no trouble being used between different corners of my house (i.e., strong signal). I did not try the app, because I personally do not want video from my house being relayed through unknown servers, with who-knows-who being able to view it. Unfortunately, far too many people fail to understand how video going to your phone works (I have literally had people tell me, “it is just going to my phone,” but, uh, in most cases, that is most certainly not the case). Only a few cameras (e.g., Reolink) can run totally on your local network, without passing through unknown remote servers. No thanks!Bottom line is that you need to think carefully about how you intend to use this system. Much is made in the description of its portability and clip base with battery, but the lack of a power button on the camera makes that base w/battery much less useful than it could be.
